Hello from 1S
The past two weeks have been packed with learning and fun in our classroom! In our Unit of Inquiry, we’ve been exploring Community Helpers and learning about the important roles that people like doctors, garbage collectors, posties, and dentists play in our community. The students are excited to discover how these helpers contribute to our daily lives and make our community a better place.
During our Core Literacy lessons, we’ve been practicing special sounds in words. Last week, we learned the "oi" sound, exploring words that use "oi" and "oy". This week, we’re focusing on how "ow" and "ou" can make the same "ow" sound, like in “cow” and “out.” The students are doing a fantastic job noticing these sounds in their reading and writing!
In Writing, we’ve been working on using story maps to plan our stories. Story maps help us sequence our ideas so we can tell clear, organized stories. Ask your child about their latest story map, and they’ll be thrilled to share the story they created!
In Maths, our focus has been on Mass and Capacity. We’ve been comparing weights to see which items are heavier or lighter and investigating capacity by testing which containers hold more or less. It’s been a hands-on adventure with plenty of measuring, comparing, and problem-solving!
Finally, we celebrated World Teachers' Day last week. It was a wonderful day to reflect on the joy of teaching and learning together. Thank you to our 1S families for all your support!
Looking forward to another fantastic fortnight of learning!
