Level 6

We're a great mix in Level 6!

Reading

In Reading, students have continued their novel study of Once by Morris Gleitzman. Class discussions around the book have been both engaging and thought-provoking, with students demonstrating a strong understanding of its themes. They’ve explored how individual perspectives, ideas, opinions, and values can shape different interpretations of the text.

Writing

The Level 6 students have been thoroughly enjoying their scrapbook writing, where they reflect on memories from their primary school years. Exploring different writing genres has allowed them to reflect on their experiences in unique ways, offering meaningful insights into their personal journey through school.

Numeracy

Over the past two weeks, students have explored probability concepts, learning to identify and discuss the likelihood of events occurring. They used this knowledge to create frequency tables to display their results. Students then applied their understanding in a game of dice cricket, where they analysed their data by calculating the mean, median, and mode and used these measures to describe their observations.

Inquiry

This term, our Inquiry unit focuses on science. Level 6 students have been exploring the concept of energy and its various forms. Students conducted an experiment to observe how quickly an ice cube melts in different environments, such as in the hand, in the mouth, in a bowl, and at room temperature. Before beginning, students made hypotheses, predicting which environment would cause the ice to melt the fastest. Rich discussion followed regarding constants and variables and how this may affect outcomes.
