Ballarat Young Authors’ Program 2025
Last Thursday afternoon students involved in the Ballarat Young Authors’ Program attended the program’s launch at the Mt. Rowan College auditorium with their parents and carers.
The launch was an opportunity for families to hear information about this year’s program and for students to hear from students who have participated in previous years about their experience.
Ben Saunders who is a local children’s author also presented a highly engaging segment about his journey to become an author.
We congratulate all 14 participants and look forward to sharing more about the program throughout the year.
NAPLAN Reports
A note to parents and carers of year 3 and year 5 students that we have been advised by VCAA that we will receive individual student reports for NAPLAN early in Term 3.
These reports will be sent home as a hard copy document; please ensure that you file them somewhere safe, as they are often required for independent school applications.
Information on how to read and interpret your child’s NAPLAN results will be sent home closer to the date.
Mathematics position statement
Last week the Victorian Department of Education released a statement relating to the teaching of Mathematics titled, ‘Mathematics position statement’. This position statement outlines Victoria’s approach to teaching mathematics and prioritises evidence-based practices aligned with how students learn. See below for a summary of that statement or if you wish to read the entire statement, you can find it on the link here.

National Simultaneous Story Time
Last week, our students proudly took part in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), a much-loved annual event celebrated across Australia. At the same moment, millions of children in schools, libraries, and homes joined together to read the same story. It has been reported that 2,204,658 participants joined at 16,632 locations across Australia and beyond.
This year’s featured book was Truck Cat by Australian author Debra Tidball, a delightful story that captured the imagination of our students. Together, we read the book, discussed its themes, and enjoyed fun activities inspired by the story.
NSS is a wonderful opportunity to promote a love of reading and bring communities together through the joy of storytelling. It was fantastic to see our students so engaged and excited to be part of something shared nationwide. Well done to everyone who took part!
