Thank a First Responder - Casual Sock Day!
Wednesday 11 June
Wednesday 11 June is Thank a First Responder Day, to show appreciation for the vital work of paramedics, police officers, firefighters, and other emergency personnel who are first on the scene when help is needed most.
To mark the occasion, we’re hosting a Casual Sock Day!
Students are encouraged to wear bright, fun or quirky socks with their regular school uniform and, if possible, bring along a gold coin donation.
All funds raised will go directly to St John Ambulance, who will be visiting our school the following week to deliver free First Aid training for all students. These age-appropriate sessions will take place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June, running for 45 minutes per class.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to:
- Learn essential first aid and emergency response skills
- Build confidence in handling emergency situations
- Contribute to a culture of gratitude and community awareness.
We look forward to a colourful day as we thank our first responders and empower our students with vital life skills!
Head lice
We’ve recently received a small number of notifications regarding suspected cases of head lice. While head lice are a fairly common part of school life, we understand they can be frustrating and time-consuming to manage.
We’d like to take this opportunity to remind families of the school’s approach to managing head lice and how you can support efforts to minimise their spread.
What You Can Do:
- Check your child’s hair regularly, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If you find live lice, please begin treatment immediately and repeat the process 7 days later to catch any newly hatched lice.
- Notify the school office if your child has head lice so that we can issue a discreet Compass notice to the relevant class group.
- Children with live lice should not attend school until the day after appropriate treatment has commenced.
- Tie back long hair while at school to help reduce the risk of transmission.
School Procedures:
Once we are notified of a case, we issue a Compass alert to the affected class to help other families check and treat early, preventing further spread. We treat this matter confidentially and with sensitivity.
Head lice can happen to anyone, regardless of hygiene or home environment. Our aim is to work in partnership with families to break the cycle and keep our classrooms as lice-free as possible.
Resources and Support:
- Visit the Victorian Department of Health’s Head Lice information page: Treating and controlling Head Lice
- Speak to a pharmacist for treatment options and advice.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for taking the time to check your child’s hair. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
Bunjil Awards
Congratulations to the following students who received a Bunjil Award at the last assembly.
Bunjil awards recognise student achievement and those who display our school values of being respectful, responsible and kind.
Well done! All of our recipients enjoyed a hot chocolate or zooper dooper with a principal.
