Dominant Mordialloc Storm into SMR Finals After Unbeaten Run

Mordialloc Secondary College’s Year 9 & 10 AFL girls team has powered through the regional rounds in emphatic style, sweeping all four games with a blend of skill, structure and relentless teamwork to claim the division title and secure their place in the SMR Finals on Tuesday, July 29.

The campaign began with a tightly contested Round 1 clash against Brighton. In difficult conditions, Mordialloc held firm to edge out their opponents in a gritty 3.5.23 to 3.2.20 win. It was a valuable early test, one that would set the tone for what was to come.

From there, the team shifted into another gear. Round 2 saw them take complete control, outclassing Beaumaris with a 4.3.27 to 0.5.5 win. Beaumaris struggled to penetrate Mordialloc’s well-organised defence, while Mordialloc’s midfield engine room provided drive and clean ball movement forward.

The semi-final against Parkdale continued the trend. With every line firing, Mordialloc dominated the contest from start to finish, running out 5.7.37 to 1.1.7 winners. It was a performance built on pressure, discipline, and ball use — trademarks of the team throughout the tournament.

In the final, a rematch against Beaumaris, Mordialloc delivered their most complete performance yet. A powerful 8.6.54 to 0.1.1 victory showcased just how far the team had come across the campaign, dismantling their opposition with clean skills and ferocious intensity.

While the scoreboard margins tell the story of a dominant side, Mordialloc’s success was truly a team effort. From the backline to the forward 50, every player contributed to the side’s consistency and hunger across all four matches.

Standout individual performances added further polish to the campaign. Bella Knox led the way up forward, finishing as the tournament’s leading goal kicker. In the midfield, Metaiah Iosefo was a clearance machine, repeatedly winning the ball at the coalface and driving it forward. Luna Kovac was electric on the outside, amassing the most meters gained across the competition and proving to be a constant threat.

With confidence high and momentum on their side, Mordialloc now turns its attention to the SMR Finals on July 29. If this form continues, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with on the big stage.
