Year 3/4 Learning Reflection

This week in Core Literacy, Grade 3/4 students have been doing retrieval of the codes for /l/. Some of the sound spellings we have looked at are: l, ll, le, al, el, il, ol
Word examples; apple, collect, double, camel, pencil, petrol.
Students were also introduced to a new vocabulary word, 'scornful'. They discussed the word in a contextual way and wrote sentences in their notepads.
Students have been thoroughly enjoying our serial read, 'The One and Only Ivan'. Be sure to ask them to tell you a little bit about it. Teachers have been very proud of the students' responses to literal and inferred questioning about the text.
Students are now publishing Information Reports on the topic of Gorilla's. This is a cross curriculum area to reading. Year 3's will be publishing in written form and Year 4's are practising navigating the features of digital devices to produce texts that enhance readability, including headlines, drop-down menus, links, graphics and layout.
For Maths, students have been focusing on Data. They have generated their own questions, surveyed their classmates using tally marks and plotted their findings on a bar graph. Importantly they have also been analysing their data and written about their findings.
