Grade 5 & 6

Numeracy
Over the past few weeks students have been investigating fractions. We have had a particular focus on understanding and identifying equivalent fractions. We have been showing our knowledge by using fraction walls, length models, area models and set models. Students have been working hard to develop their understanding of how different fractions can represent the same value.
Have a go together.

Literacy
Grade five and six students have been diving into the art of persuasive writing. They've been learning how to craft compelling arguments by stating clear opinions, supporting them with strong reasons and evidence. We are learning about the importance of using persuasive language techniques such as rhetorical questions, emotive words, and repetition.
Daily we are debating a range of topics such as " Students shouldn't go on excursions" and " All children should be banned from social media" Through engaging debates and writing opinion pieces on issues they care about, students are developing their ability to influence and persuade readers effectively. This focus on persuasive texts not only enhances their writing skills but also encourages critical thinking and confidence in expressing their viewpoints. Soon students will write a persuasive text about climate change.
St Johns First Aid in School Incursion
So far, St Johns has taught more than 1.2 million children since the program started in 2013. On Monday the 26th of May Meadows Primary added 93 more students to that number.
The knowledge and skills gained in the First Aid in Schools Program develops First Aid awareness in school children and contributes to building a more resilient community.
Bringing to life the importance of First Aid and what to do in an emergency, including calling 000 and performing CPR.
Grade 6 Jumpers
Our grade six students have been loving their special jumpers. They were over the moon when getting to try them on. A special thankyou to Mr. Aidan for photographing the experience. Here are a few snaps.
