Professional Learning with Emina McLean

Last Friday, our staff had the privilege of engaging in an enriching day of professional learning with renowned literacy expert, Emina McLean. Emina, who has extensive experience in the field of literacy development, guided us through a series of insightful sessions focused on evidence-based practices for teaching fluency and comprehension. Her expertise and passion for literacy were both inspiring and motivating for everyone involved.

The professional learning day was structured around three key objectives that we believe are essential for effective teacher development:

  • A change in knowledge

  • A change in practice

  • A change in student outcomes

Emina’s approach helped staff understand the critical link between literacy instruction and student success. The strategies and techniques shared will enable our teachers to further refine their practice and enhance their approach to literacy, ensuring that our students receive the highest quality instruction across all year levels.

Our staff left the session feeling inspired, eager to implement these new strategies, and more equipped than ever to support our students' literacy growth. We are excited to see the positive impact of these enhanced teaching practices on our students’ fluency, comprehension, and overall reading skills in the months ahead.

School Fete 2025

We are thrilled to announce that our highly anticipated School Fete will take place on Saturday, November 15th this year! Excitement is already building, and our dedicated 'Friends of Maramba' parent volunteers are hard at work planning a fun-filled day for the entire school community.

The Fete promises to be an exciting event for all, and we are calling on volunteers to help make it a success. If you are interested in getting involved, please refer to the flyer in the 'Friends of Maramba' section of this newsletter for more details on how you can contribute.

At Maramba, we pride ourselves on the strong sense of community that defines our school, and we greatly value the partnerships with our families and local community members. These collaborations play a vital role in enhancing the learning experience for all of our students, and the School Fete is a wonderful opportunity to come together in support of our school.

District Cross Country

A huge congratulations to the 41 students from Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 who took part in the District Cross Country event on Tuesday! Our students demonstrated not only skill and determination but also outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. From encouraging their teammates to showing respect for their competitors, the spirit of fair play was evident in every race.

Special recognition goes to Zain N (Year 5), who secured an impressive 2nd place in the Boys 11 race, and Eve N (Year 4), who finished 3rd in the Girls 9/10 event. Jack B and Iggy V also ran exceptionally well, claiming 7th and 9th place, respectively. Their dedication and perseverance were inspiring. All four students have earned spots at the Division Championships in Pakenham next Wednesday, and we look forward to cheering them on!

Education Week 2025 – A Celebration of Cultures

Education Week is an annual celebration of public education in Victoria. This year, we celebrated from Monday 19 May to Friday 23 May, with the theme “Celebration of Cultures”—highlighting the rich diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe, valued, and welcome at school.

At Maramba Primary School, students engaged in a variety of activities that explored and celebrated different cultures from around the world.

These included:

  • Learning how to say hello in different languages

  • Creating traditional Henna hand designs

  • Learning to count in different languages

  • Writing in different languages

  • Writing their name using the Rune alphabet and Greek alphabet

  • Discovering famous landmarks from various countries

  • Designing and making flags from around the world

  • Researching international foods

  • Presenting on celebrations from around the world

  • Creating cultural dress dolls

On Thursday 22 May, we hosted an open morning from 9:00am to 10:00am. Families and special friends were invited to visit classrooms and share in the students’ learning and cultural discoveries.

It was a wonderful week of learning, sharing, and celebrating the many cultures that make our school community so special. Thank you to all those who were able to visit.
