Curriculum Matters

Foundation

This term, Foundation students have been learning all about our local community and the important people who help us.

We were very lucky to have a visit from Liz the paramedic, who shared with us the different ways she keeps us safe, happy and healthy. We are looking forward to our visit from a police officer next week! These visits are helping us to understand the valuable roles community helpers play and how they support everyone in our community.

Level 1

What an exciting few weeks we’ve had in Level 1!

One of the biggest highlights was our excursion to Met Art World, where we were amazed by enormous sculptures made from metal and old tyres.

We loved seeing how everyday objects were transformed into incredible works of art.

Another unforgettable moment was stepping into the 9D flying cinema for a thrilling ride through Jurassic World – we could almost feel the dinosaurs breathing down our necks!

We also had the chance to colour in our very own fish and watch them come to life on a giant digital wall.

It was magical to see our artwork swimming together in a beautiful underwater world.

Our absolute favourite part of the excursion was the Starry Starry Night exhibition.

We walked through a shimmering mirror maze, explored a glowing galaxy, and wandered through a room full of sparkling, hanging lights. It felt like stepping into a dream!

Back in the classroom, we continued exploring the theme of light by creating our own shadow puppet plays. We had so much fun designing characters and using light to bring our stories to life.

It’s been a bright and brilliant time for Level 1!

Level 2

Year 2 had an exciting day at Legoland, linking perfectly with our Inquiry unit on Materials. The highlight of the day was building our own Lego car launchers!

We discovered how different materials can change when we twist, stretch, or build with them. Students worked in teams to make predictions, test their ideas, and see how far their Lego cars could go. Alongside the building fun, we enjoyed a thrilling 4D movie, went on interactive rides, and explored an incredible model of Melbourne made entirely from Lego.

It was a fun, hands-on day filled with creativity, problem-solving, and lots of teamwork!

Level 3

Our students have been doing some amazing work in maths.

They've been busy exploring measurement, using rulers and tape measures to estimate and measure objects around the classroom and see how far we can jump. They’ve also been learning a variety of strategies with addition, like jump strategy, split strategy and vertical addition.

Level 4

It’s been an exciting and imaginative week in Grade 4! Students have entered a hilarious national competition where they must come up with the most creative ridiculous excuse for why they can’t come to school. Whether it's because the classrooms are “too stinky” or “full of zombie teachers” nothing is off-limits!

The winning entry will receive a special visit from Andy Lee himself.

We’ve had some laugh-out-loud brainstorming sessions already and we’re proud of the creativity our Level 4s have shown.

In SEL our focus has been on using our initiative.

Students participated in team-building challenges like building the tallest tower possible using only their shoes and lining up from youngest to oldest all without saying a word! These fun and engaging activities helped highlight the importance of problem-solving thinking ahead and working collaboratively.

Level 5

Last week on the 5th  of June, Level 5 participated in a planetarium incursion about the Solar System.

We went into a big tent in the GP room and lay down on the floor. It was an unbelievable experience, and we learnt a lot about the 8 planets, the sun, and 3 dwarf planets.

All 3 classes enjoyed the experience, and we were engaged the whole time. It was a dome, and it had so many cool effects. The presenter running the program told us what planets we could see and when could see at them after dawn.

It was fantastic and the whole year level recommend it!

Level 6

Thursday the 5th June Level 6 students had the opportunity to visit the MCG.

They had a fun filled hour long tour with a Melbourne Cricket Ground expert. They learnt a lot about the history and the use of the MCG from ALF football, cricket and even some concerts. Students also had a chance to visit the Museum as well as the MCC museum and experience the games and activities within the ‘Game on’ area of the ground.

I loved exploring new places within the MCG that I would have never imagined or been able to experience without going with school.                                 -Kiarah G-D

I really enjoyed the view from the top of the MCG!.                                  - Tiffany T

I enjoyed that I got to learn about the history of the MCG and that they play Cricket, AFL and host concerts on the MCG.                                                             - Airlea H
