Classroom Activities

Year 8 TED Class - Trebuchet Task

While our Pre-Service Teacher, Melanie Hamlet was visiting, the Year 8 TED class completed a design and construction task.

Students completed a research task, brainstormed more than 5 designs and made and trialled prototypes prior to the construction of their final trebuchet, all while only utilising masking tape, small spoon or bottle top, icy pole sticks and elastic bands.

Competition between the Year 8 groups was fierce, however, Ms Hamlet was the overall judge.  Mrs Medlyn played referee for the most part.  The final results placed Lithil and Xen’s trebuchet in first place for distance and accuracy, with Darnell, Jake and Emmett were the closest runner up in both categories.  Evie and Samuel, and Matei and Noah’s designs were both highly commended for their outstanding achievements.

Ellie created a painting to express a reflection of a lake by moonlight using acrylic on paper with metallic highlights.  See this and other wonderful artworks at the Art Display at Donald High School May 23rd from 12.00pm

There is so much magic in the Art Room.  And not everything will look the same.  Here we see Josie's and River's lady frog!  Both totally unique and wonderful!  Mr Rigby’s sister made this frog and it was gifted to Mrs Medlyn during her last teaching stint at DHS.  This lady frog has seen many classrooms since then!
