Divisional Cross Country

Last Friday our students who qualified out of the Upper Kiewa Cross Country held at Tawonga Memorial Park, attended the Divisional event in Wodonga.  Some of our students wrote about their experience.

Gunnar - on Friday I ran in the cross country. The race track went over two creeks and we had to run 2.5km. We had to go up a big hill at the start, up a bridge and then around. There was also a stoney path into the park. I came 60th and I was most proud that I finished the race and set an easy pace and then sprinted to the finish line.

Loki - the top 12 made it to regionals after division and in my age group (boys 9/10) there was 130 people competing. I came 82nd and I was most proud that I did it and tried really hard all the way to the end. The winner won in 7min 30sec! When I got my card at the end I flipped it over and was really proud of my result.

Christian - I competed in the division cross country on Friday. I came 76th and was really proud. I slipped over and had a slow start but I worked really hard and started to overtake lots of people. I set a good pace and sprinted to the finish line.

Eleanor - on Friday I competed in the Division Cross Country and I came 72nd out of 142 competitors. I was really worried at the start of the race. Everyone was pushing forward to get to stand on the front of the line. When the buzzer went, I jogged with Chilli but then I pushed really hard and jogged. At the end I found Isla and we ran together and sprinted hard to the finish line. Everyone was cheering. I felt really proud to have tried so hard. Afterwards at the playground Isla, Archie, Luca, Christian and I all had fun playing on a spinning thing!

Erin - on the day I went with Steph and Zoe. We had loads of treats and snacks to help give us lots of energy and power for the race. My favourite one was the lamingtons! We started the race at around 12:15pm. All the 9/10 girls were gathered together. I tried to find a spot at the front of the line and I got overtaken a couple of times, but then I raced hard and overtook some other competitors. I came 59th out of 142 kids. It was a fun day!

Isla - on Friday I came to school and then was picked up to go and compete in the cross country. On the way to the race we had to wait 20mins for the milking cows to cross the road... but we just made it on time. I lined up at the start line and then the starting beeper went off. We started on a big hill and everyone sprinted. Then at number 6 some of us got a stitch so we walked a little bit. I was so proud when I looked at my card and realised that I got 73rd out of 142 competitors. It was so comfy to lay down on Eleanors mat at the end and relax.

PS - Sam W also had a great race... and didn't lose his shoe this time! Well done Sam :) We are all so very proud of everyone's strong efforts, teamwork and positive attitudes - that's the Mount Beauty Primary School way!
