Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
Year 8 Maths students have been working hard using Maths Pathway, our personalised learning program that supports and challenges students in the classroom.
Every 2–3 weeks, students complete a cycle of learning and then sit a test to demonstrate their understanding. We’re excited to celebrate these outstanding students who completed all their assigned modules for the cycle, and achieved at least 125% growth. This means they mastered 5 or more modules on the test.
Well done, mathematicians!
To celebrate Catholic Education Week, on Friday we welcomed students and staff from SMJ Horsham for a special liturgy and shared BBQ lunch. Catholic Education Week is a time to celebrate the faith, learning, and strong sense of community that guide our students' journey from primary through to secondary education. It was a wonderful afternoon, with students enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with old friends from SMJ, and take the basketball court together!
Year 10 students recently completed a week of work experience, gaining important insights and valuable skills in the workplace. We sincerely thank the businesses and organisations who generously welcomed and supported our students, providing them with this opportunity to learn and grow.
Students reflected on their week, sharing their new skills and knowledge:
"I learnt about the proper use of a battery driver and grease gun, the process of doing a 100 hourly inspection, and engine change on an airplane." Liam C - Horsham Aviation Services
"New skills I developed were introducing myself to young kids, getting along with all of them, helping them out and talking to lots of different people." Tayla H - SMJ Horsham
"I learnt how to take out a perm, and that communicating with strangers isn't a scary thing." Ella M - Sassi
"I learnt about the perspective as a school teacher and it was really cool what they do behind the scenes." Hannah P, SMJ Horsham
During Year 10 Work Experience, students completed a week of placement at a variety of businesses and organisations including Ss Michael and John's Primary School, Shelton & Lane, Wimmera Libraries, ACE Radio, Your Family Vet, Elders Insurance, and many more!
Sivani S, who completed her work experience with West Wimmera Health Service, reflected on her experience:
"The highlight of my week was working with the different allied health professionals and going out and about to different places to visit patients. I also liked to see how the patient care was done by different professions.
My main tasks and responsibilities at WWHS was to observe and learn more about allied health and learn about the different jobs that I experienced each day. I assisted allied health staff with basic tasks, observed patient care, and learned about health professions in a clinical setting.
The most interesting task I completed was observing therapy sessions, where I saw how allied health professionals supported patients through tailored exercises and care plans. It was fascinating to see how small steps made a big difference in people’s recovery and independence.
During the week, I gained a better understanding of how different allied health professionals work together to support patient care. I also learned how to communicate more confidently in a healthcare setting and developed basic skills like preparing equipment and observing patient needs
This experience gave me a clearer understanding of what it's like to work in allied health, and it made me even more interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. I really appreciated how welcoming and supportive the staff were, and I’m grateful for the chance to learn in a real clinical environment."

Recently, Year 12 student, Charlie Kuhn, attended the Horsham Law Courts for a series of presentations during Law Week. Read about Charlie's experience below:
"On Wednesday 21st May, I had the privilege of attending a comprehensive Legal Studies event that covered key content from Units 3 and 4. The day provided valuable insights into various aspects of the Victorian legal system.
The event began with engaging presentations from the Ombudsman and Shannon Colee from the Young Workers Centre. We then visited the Horsham Law Courts, where we heard from Paul Dore, the Head of Juries Victoria. We also had the opportunity to meet a Magistrate, who explained the structure of a trial and the responsibilities of a judicial officer.
Further enriching the day were informative sessions with representatives from the Victorian Law Reform Commission and Victoria Legal Aid. These discussions helped us understand the critical roles these organisations play in the justice system.
A particular highlight was the opportunity to have lunch with our Federal Member for Mallee, Dr Anne Webster. During this time, I was able to ask questions about recent parliamentary developments and Dr Webster’s ongoing work in support of our region.
I would like to sincerely thank Mr Raven and Ms Fabiola Superina for providing me with this wonderful opportunity. I am also deeply grateful to Dr Anne Webster for the invitation to lunch and for taking the time to thoughtfully answer my questions."
Some very brave staff and students took on the Big Freeze Ice Bucket Challenge last Friday in support of FightMND.
Huge thanks to the SRC and Miss Grace for organising this event where $1,0000 was raised! Thank you to all members of our wonderful community who donated to this wonderful cause. Click on the link below to view our staff and students in action!
