This Term in Collaborative Coaching

Collaborative Coaching is a Catholic Schools Broken Bay initiative that prioritises data literacy and professional learning for staff in order to improve student results. Our school Collaborative Coaching goal for 2026 is to improve student progress in writing through explicit teaching and increased knowledge of the syllabus. Our teachers are working hard to provide all students with quality instruction each day.

Every week the classroom teachers K-6meet with me to discuss student data and progress.

During our weekly time together, teachers bring samples of writing which is marked and moderated between the teachers, and we discuss how to plan lessons that cater for the different ability levels in each class.

Here is a snapshot of our Term One focus for each grade using content from the English Syllabus.

Kindergarten - Students begin writing on the left and can continue writing to the next line. They can write a few sight words e.g. the, and can attempt to write words that begin with taught sounds such as s,a,t,p,i,n

Example - Andy the Ant sat on the net.

Year One - Students can use action, saying and sensing verbs to add detail and precision to writing. Some students are also adding adverbs

Example - Mrs Hogan quickly swam in the pool.

Year Two- Students are able to write sentences that include noun groups and adjectives that provide detail to their work.

Example - Mrs Nunn wore a sparkly new green dress.

Year Three- Students writing is cohesive (flows well) with consistent correct use of noun and pronoun referencing

Example- Mrs Stella walked to her car. She was carrying her blue bag and a large hat.

Year Four - Students include dialogue in their narrative writing that displays a sound knowledge of speech marks. New Line for a New Speaker!

Example- "Why don't we let Year Four have extra play time?" asked Mr Knapman.

"That's a great idea", replied Mrs Dalle Nogare.

Year Five and Six - Students understand the difference between persuasive and figurative language.

Message From Our STEAM Teachers

Recycle for STEAM!!!!

We are looking for donations of small cardboard boxes to help restock the STEAM room. These boxes are used by the children to construct projects during STEAM lessons.

Tissue boxes, cereal boxes, muesli bar boxes etc. Soft cardboard boxes strong enough to build with, but easy enough to cut and glue. Also, we can use Glad wrap /tin foil cardboard tubes (NOT TOILET ROLLS). We are also looking for plastic milk bottle lids.

Thank you from

The STEAM Team

Have a Lovely Weekend

Kind Regards
