Creative Connections: Exploring ‘Belong’ Through Felt
Over the past three weeks, our students have taken part in a wonderful creative journey, exploring the theme of “Belong” through a hands-on felt-making project. Guided by our visiting facilitator, Gaye, students experimented with colour, texture, and storytelling to create unique felt artworks that reflect what belonging means to them.
Throughout the workshops, students were introduced to the traditional art of felt making. They learned how loose wool fibres can be layered, shaped, and bonded together using a needle.
As their skills developed over the three weeks, students began translating their personal ideas of belonging into their designs. Some artworks represented family, friendship, and community, while others reflected connections to nature, culture, or favourite places. The variety of colours, patterns, and symbols used in the felt pieces showed just how many different ways belonging can be understood and expressed.
Gaye supported students throughout the project, encouraging them to experiment and trust their creative instincts. Her guidance helped students build confidence with the materials while also thinking deeply about the meaning behind their work.
The finished felt pieces are vibrant, thoughtful, and full of personality. More than just artworks, they are visual stories that celebrate identity, connection, and community. We are incredibly proud of the creativity and reflection our students showed throughout the project.
Thank you to Gaye for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students, and congratulations to everyone involved for their beautiful and meaningful creations.
