Years F-6

Monday we will hold our second F-6 Assembly for the term. Assembly begins at 9am and is held just outside the Primary building. We welcome all parents and friends to join us. We present student awards and hear from students about things they have been doing in the classroom.

AFL Clinic

AFL Vic were at school last Friday and got involved with the students during lunchtime and ran clinics during PE classes. Students were fully engaged in lots of activities testing their skills. Parents of Primary aged students, keep an eye out for holiday clinics in our area. Thanks AFLCV for providing this experience.

Thursday of next week our Year 5 & 6 students will head to Boort to play tennis. In their Physical Education classes of late they have been working on their skills and understanding of the game. This year, they will play in mixed teams. It will not only be a great day of sport, but also a fantastic opportunity for our students to make new friendships. We hope everyone enjoys their day and look forward to hearing how it all goes.

Mr Zudetich’s Year 5 Numeracy Group – Pi Day.

Pi is a number loved by many Mathematicians. It is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi’s value is approximately 3.14, so mathematicians love celebrating the number Pi on March the 14th. Mr Zudetich’s Year 5 Numeracy group were keen to celebrate this day. They have been asking for a while to learn about Pi. They celebrated by having a go at calculating Pi by measuring the circumference and diameter of various circular objects and dividing the circumference by the diameter to calculate Pi. This included measuring the circumference and diameter of a circular table. The students achieved this by using a tape measure for the circumference. To find the diameter, first they found the centre of the table by ruling three perpendicular secants, then they ruled diagonal lines from the corners. The intersection revealed the centre of the table. A tape measure was then used to find the diameter.

The students were also fascinated to learn about how Pi is an irrational number, meaning it has an infinite number of decimal places with digits that don’t repeat.
