Principal

Craig Kelly

This week we said goodbye to Mr Britton, who gratefully filled the English teaching role while we found a permanent replacement. Mr Britton developed great relationships with our students and set a very positive vibe around both classrooms and the staffroom. We wish him all the very best in retirement.

Students have completed NAPLAN testing this week. A big well done to all the students for how they conducted themselves in the tests. All used their time positively and were respectful of others. We will now await the results that will inform the school of what we may work on next in regard to our curriculum. A big thank you to all the staff who have administered the tests.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held Tuesday 31st March from 3:30pm until 6:30pm I would encourage all parents and carers to attend the interviews as they are extremely valuable to help teachers understand more about your child. Parents and carers can also learn about their child's learning strengths and areas where their child needs to continue to grow.

A notification advising when bookings open will be sent via Compass next week.

Interim Reports

This year, Charlton College will be providing students and families with progress reports at the end of Term 1 and Term 3. These will provide an overview of how your child is preforming in their classes. NCTTC Interim reports will follow at a later date.

Important Safety Reminder: Please Use the High St Crossing

The School Crossing Supervisor has advised the school that some students are not using the designated crossing and are instead crossing at other points along the highway.

Student safety is our highest priority. The High St crossing is in place to ensure students can cross the road safely, under the supervision of the crossing supervisor. Crossing the highway at other locations is extremely dangerous.

We ask all families to please remind students of the importance of always using the High St crossing when travelling to and from school. Your support helps keep everyone safe.

Sleep Awareness Week

Last week we celebrated Sleep awareness week by wearing our Pyjamas to school.

Why Getting Enough Sleep Is Important?

Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly, impairing your abilities to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories.

Sleep serves a variety of important physical and psychological functions, including:

  • Learning and memory consolidation: Sleep helps with focus and concentration—and it allows the brain to register and organize memories—all of which are vital to learning.
  • Emotional regulation: Sleep helps people regulate their emotions and better manage the physical and psychological effects of stress.
  • Judgment and decision making: Sleep influences a person’s ability to recognize danger and threats.
  • Problem solving: Research shows that “sleeping on” a complex problem improves a person’s chance of solving it.
  • Energy conservation: Sleep allows people to conserve energy through an extended period of reduced activity.
  • Growth and healing: Sleep provides the release of growth hormone necessary for the body’s tissues to grow and repair damage.
  • Immunity: Sleep supports immune function, allowing the body to fight off diseases and infections.
