A Junior School Walk in Wonder: Exploring God’s Creations at Banjo Paterson Park
Our Junior students recently enjoyed a meaningful excursion to Banjo Paterson Park as part of our inquiry focus: “How Do Places, People and Stories Help Shape Who We Are?”
The Banjo Paterson Park, a special place within our local community, provided the perfect setting for students to connect with both nature and their sense of belonging. A highlight of the visit was gathering around a beautiful big tree, where we took time to pause, reflect, and say a prayer in appreciation of God’s creation and the history held within this significant place.
Students also participated in an engaging scavenger hunt, exploring the environment as they searched for different elements of God’s creation. This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity, observation, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.
Back in the classroom, our LS3 Junior students reflected on their excursion by writing thoughtful recounts.
Through their writing, students shared their personal experiences, insights and favourite parts of the excursion, highlighting the moments that were most meaningful to them. This excursion was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn beyond the classroom, fostering both spiritual reflection and a growing connection to the world around them.
Have a lovely weekend,
LS3 Junior Teachers

Learning Experiences:
The students have begun the term using their fine motor skills and creativity to express highlights of their holidays through different lenses. For our Year 1’s and 2’s their art piece entitled “Capturing Holiday Moments” encouraged them to use drawing techniques with a combination of soft granite pencils to draw various lines in images, use textas to outline and pencils to colour in one direction. They also explored analogous colours (colours next to each other in the colour wheel) and blended to create realistic depth. Whilst the Seniors artwork entitled “Framing the Moment”, allowed them to show effective drawing and colouring techniques through detailed panoramic images, analogous colours and shading in one direction. They also built on their drawing techniques explicitly to draw facial features and used a value scale to show tones with blending techniques to make the image come to life.
For our newest art students, our Preps, they began their debut art piece at SFS primary school by showing a portrait of their family inside a decorative frame of their house.
In this unit they were excited to experiment with grey leds and fine liners to show basic lines and shapes. They constructed a coloured house frame with paddle pop sticks and used their imagination to explore the three primary colours as they designed different patterns to represent unique families.
These pieces and others will be on display in the coming weeks. Enjoy!
Housekeeping:
If you would like to donate coloured wool for future art activities, please send them through your children to pass on to me. Thank you!
Until then, keep on making the spark in your art grow!

The students are becoming familiar and confident with the skills of Bike Education and understanding the rules of the roads, for example:
1. Reviewing the safety protocols from each session to ensure that the students are well-acquainted with them.
2. When to accelerate and decelerate and use their gears.
3. Being vigilant about pedestrians while riding, signalling their presence to those on foot, and maintaining awareness of their environment.
4. Navigate the proper approach to entering a roundabout, including the necessary actions to take when vehicles are present, ensuring that you remain safe.
5. Being aware when approaching certain signs, such as Give way and Stop signs, is essential.
6. Continuing communicating to each other and making sure every student understands the command.
Furthermore, engaging in regular activities is crucial, as it contributes to the enhancement of fitness, health, and overall well-being.
