Here are some of our lucky raffle winners from last week who have been demonstrating our expected behaviours.

SFS Twilight Community Market

A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported the SFS annual Twilight community market. You might like to get involved next year and have a stall or know someone who has a small business they would like to promote. Please speak to me or send me an email if you would like to be involved. rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

I have had an overwhelming positive response from people who attended the market, stallholders, parents, children and staff. It was a fantastic school community event!

Child Safe Standards

The Child Safe Standards aim to protect children and young people, by requiring organisations to put policies, procedures and processes in place to prevent and respond to abuse. We have 11 child safe standards to follow. These are:

  1. Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.

  2. Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.

  3. Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.

  4. Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.

  5. Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.

  6. People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.

  7. Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.

  8. Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.

  9. Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.

  10. Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.

  11. Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.

One of the ways we teach the children about the Child safe standards is to teach them about Body Safety rules. My body is my body and it belongs to me, I have a safety network of trusted adults I can talk to when I do not feel safe, my body gives early warning signs I do not feel safe, My private parts are the parts of my body I cover with my bathers and I should never keep secrets that make me feel bad or uncomfortable.

If you have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
