District Battleball
Our final event of the sporting calendar has officially taken place - with the District Battleball competition at Mullum Mullum Stadium on Friday 1st December. We had approximately 60 students from Year 5 and Year 6 in attendance, forming a BPPS Boys Team and a BPPS Girls Team. While we had some great results and fantastic performances throughout the day, both our girls team and our boys team narrowly missed out on Grand Final appearances, with both BPPS teams finishing, very respectably, in third place. While the battleball itself was a lot of fun, the standout from the day was the absolutely flawless teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity and effort demonstrated at all times by our BPPS students. In the face of a few less than fair sporting acts from opposition teams, I couldn't be more proud of the manner in which our own students conducted themselves on the day - maintaining their respect for the rules, referees, opponents and teammates at all times. Ultimately, the exceptional way in which our students represented our school was a perfect highlight to finish the 2023 sporting year!
Swimming Trials for 2024
Huge thanks to those that have already registered their children for BPPS Swimming Trials next year. While this is an entirely optional event, if your child is a competent swimmer that will be in Years 3-6 next year and is interested in representing BPPS at District Swimming in 2024, they must be registered for the trials ASAP. If you have not yet registered your child and would like to do so, please contact me for more information by emailing me at philip.wickham@education.vic.gov.au. All registrations must be in by December 15th at the absolute latest.
BPPS After School Basketball
Throughout this year, we have had a number of students across BPPS participate in the after hours basketball competition at Bulleen. Some of these students have joined their teams with extensive prior basketball experience, while many others have been new to the sport, playing competitively for the first time. It has been great to hear about (and see from afar) all of the successes that this program has brought to our students - from the forming of new friendships, development of new skills and achievement of fantastic results on the basketball court. This season, we had five teams join this competition and all five teams had tremendous success - a testament to all of the hard work that they and their volunteer coaches have put in throughout the season. Well done to all of our teams on their performances this season:
- Year 3/4 Boys - Grand Finalists
- Year 4 Boys - Premiers
- Year 5 Boys - Semi-finalists
- Year 6 Boys - Premiers
- Year 4 Girls - Our Year 4 girls have their Grand Final this week, after this newsletter is due to be published. They have trained and played hard all season so good luck girls and well done!!
While the students are of course the stars of the show, we would like to thank the team of parents linked with each team who have facilitated this program and made it so impactful for our players. Many parents have given up their own time and energy to coach these teams, take on team manager roles or even just attend and cheer on our students come match day. Special mention must go to Circe Zikou, who has spearheaded this whole program, working tirelessly to set up each team, support our coaches/team managers and ensure that each team has what it needs to compete and succeed each week. Thank you Circe for all of your hard work and dedication!
Happy Holidays!
Mr. Wickham
