SWAG - Science and Agriculture

Year 8 STEM

This year, both 8G and 8M classes have embarked on project-based learning (PBL) experiences, focusing on STEM subjects. Instead of the usual two periods of Science, they are engaging in STEM-oriented lessons designed around project-based learning methodologies. While these sessions maintain a Science emphasis, they are delivered through the lens of STEM design principles. Throughout this term, students have been exploring the attributes of effective design and delving into the concept of innovation.

Their inaugural task involved constructing paper chairs capable of supporting the greatest weight within the classroom.

Year 12 Biology Excursion

Year 12 Biology students attended the KickStar Biology - Genetic Change Workshop at Sydney University on 13/2/2024. This hands-on workshop provided students with the opportunity to delve into complex areas in an engaging and well-structured format.

One of the most compelling aspects of the KickStar Biology Workshop was its ability to provide students with a genuine taste of university life. By engaging in techniques currently utilized in undergraduate science courses, participants were able to gain invaluable insights into the rigor and excitement of academic pursuits in the field of biology.

Through interactive sessions and practical demonstrations, attendees not only expanded their understanding of genetic mechanisms but also cultivated essential skills crucial for future scientific endeavours. The workshop served as a platform for students to unleash their curiosity and pave the way for potential careers in the fascinating realm of genetics.

Kickstart Physics

Our HSC Physics students also attended the Kickstart Physics Program at Sydney Uni. In this workshop, students learnt about the nature of light from various different perspectives including Wave and quantum models. We saw a story of light and how it has changed over time through modern physics. Some exciting experiments gave students a first-hand experience with the concept of light and experimentation.
