The Sport Report

In PDHPE we have a number of mandatory subjects as well as elective subjects that students are enrolled in. We also have a number of stage 6 classes which comprise of PDHPE, Sports, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR) as well as Work Studies.

Students learn specific movement skills, game sense activities as well as health related subjects that we explore in our mandatory 7-10 PDHPE lessons. In term 1, the practical components students in Years 7 and 9 are exploring DANCE, Year 8 are exploring initiative games and activities and Year 10 are running their own in-house tournaments. While in theory lessons, Year 7 are looking at healthy food choices, Year 8 risk and health choices, Year 9 nutrition and Year 10 social media use.

In the elective subjects, Year 9 PASS are currently studying fitness choices and are undertaking a number of fitness test in a wide range of fitness components. Year 10 PASS are exploring the human body and training techniques.

In Year 11 PDHPE students have started the year with the topic of Better Health for Individuals, and Year 12 are wrapping up Factors Affecting Performance and moving towards Sports Medicine.

In Year 11 SLR students are going into greater detail around performance and fitness testing of elite athletes and Year 12 SLR are working on technique around athletics in the build up to the carnivals later in the year.

In Year 11 Work Studies, students are exploring my working life and building skills and knowledge of what is required in the work force and in Year 12 students are going into detail around what happens in the workplace.

On Tuesday Camden High school had its annual swimming carnival down at Camden Pools. It was a huge turn out from all students, with 500 students making their way through the gate on the day. Huge shout out to all students in Year 12 for their fancy dress parade, which is a Camden High tradition. So many fantastic outfits on display on the day.

Another massive swim meet by the amazing Georgia Z of Year 12. She broke 3 school records and finished first in all events she competed in on the day. Unfortunately, the rain halted the Georgia vs the Great 8 race. But Georgia still has plenty of swimming in the coming weeks.

In 2024 we will send a swim team of roughly 50 students onto the Zone level, and this is a massive achievement for all students involved. Please keep an eye out in the coming days for permission notes.

School sport has started the year off very successfully and students are really enjoying the rotation system. Can I please ask if you have not provided permission for your child to travel for sport that it is done ASAP. Please also be reminded that full sport uniform is required on a Thursday.

There are plenty of sporting trials for Zone and Sydney Southwest sport happening now, and all students are invited to trail. Please ensure students see sports organizers around this information.

Congratulations to Isla Basa - Year 9

Last week Isla competed in Round 1 of the BMX National Series in Brisbane. She came 1st in 15yr Girls & 2nd in Junior Superclass Women (14-16yr olds). There are 6 Rounds of the National Series held throughout the year (the next one is in Adelaide in April). This was all livestreamed on SBS. Isla is off to Rock Hill, South Carolina in May to compete in the World Championships. We wish her the best of luck!
