Principal's Message

Mr Cameron Jones - Principal

Student Performance

Earlier this term, our Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 students completed the check-in assessment for both reading and numeracy. This assessment is conducted across public schools and enables us to track our student progress over time and compare against other statistically similar school groups (SSSG). As a staff, last week we analysed our students’ results, and I would like to share with you the impressive work of our teaching team.

Our Year 3 students achieved our best ever result in reading and numeracy, well above SSSG. Our Year 4 students achieved their highest ever numeracy result and were significantly above SSSG in both reading and numeracy. It was also pleasing to see the improvement in our Year 5 cohort over time. When they first took the check-in assessment in 2021 during Year 3, they were only 0.9% above SSSG for reading. Two years later, those same students are now 10.4% above SSSG.

There are many factors that contribute to brilliant results like these. I would like to thank our teachers who put so much effort into ensuring that our students are challenged to improve each day. I know they will continue to do so until the end of this term.

Student Achievement

Since our last newsletter, many of our brilliant students performed at the Epping Music Festival at the Concourse. They all did a wonderful job and represented the school perfectly. Thank you to Mrs. Clements, Mr. Love, Mrs. Gurrier Jones, and Mrs. Craig for not only being there for our students but also playing a key role in organising the event.

In other great news, our Stage 3 PSSA boys' league team has made it through to the final this Friday. It is our first PSSA final in a long time! Congratulations to the team and Mr. Yu. Give it everything on Friday!

Presentation Day

A reminder that we will be having our Presentation Day assemblies under our new COLA on Tuesday 12th December. This event will be split up into 2 assemblies.

  1. 3-6 Assembly: 9.15am – 10.45am
  2. K-2 Assembly: 11.40am-12.30pm

If your child is receiving an award at either of the assemblies, you will receive a letter from the school notifying you. I would like to warmly welcome all parents and carers to come regardless of if your child is receiving an award. I very much look forward to celebrating the variety of achievements of our students at Roselea.

Department Policy Regarding Gifts to Teachers

As we move towards the end of the year, I understand some parents and carers would like to show their appreciation to the teaching and support staff. While teachers are very appreciative of small gifts as acts of gratitude, all staff are bound by the NSW Department of Education’s Code of Conduct. The following is from the policy:

4.2.1 Group Gifts: Occasionally, an individual will receive a gift from a group (for example, a student class, business unit colleagues) where each person has made a nominal contribution to a pool, but in total, the gift is valued at more than $50. Employees should, where practical, consider signalling to potential donors that individuals should only make contributions of a nominal value.

Please also note that we love teaching your children, and nothing is required. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

2024 Planning

All NSW Public Schools are staffed through enrolment numbers and associated formulas. Therefore, to plan appropriately for the 2024 school year, we need to know as accurately as possible our anticipated student numbers for next year.

If your child is leaving Roselea Public School at the end of 2023 and will not be returning next year, please let the school know by sending the office an email at roselea-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
