From the Wellbeing Hub

Kate Couchman

It’s hard to believe it is the end of the school year for our Monivae students. We have had a busy final few weeks in the Wellbeing Hub with some exciting new programs and opportunities for our students.

Vic Kids Eat Well initiative

Vic Kids Eat Well supports schools, outside school hours care, sports clubs, and a wide range of community organisations to offer healthier food and drink options. The focus is on simple changes and healthy swaps that make a big impact.  To kickstart this program, we held our first free breakfast on Monday 27th November with berry and oat smoothies and fruit salad cups in the basement. Students embraced the initiative and devoured the delicious healthy options.  We would like to thank Monique Sobey from the program and also Karen Huf (Genr8 Change) for supplying and assisting with preparing many kilos of fruit for our students. We will continue this program in 2024 with more free breakfasts and some hot breakfast options in Term Two and Three. Monique is also looking at healthier options and a refuelling station at our House Swimming and Athletics carnivals in Term One. More information on the initiative can be found at: https://www.vickidseatwell.health.vic.gov.au/

Minus 18 staff training

Next week, after the students have finished, all of our school staff will be undertaking professional learning through Minus 18, covering the topic of ‘Supporting Trans and Gender Diverse Students’. This is important training and ensures that our staff are provided with the necessary wellbeing skills to be able to support all students at Monivae. We look forward to undertaking this training and further wellbeing professional learning opportunities in 2024. Monivae prides itself on proactive student wellbeing and support, a crucial element of schooling for all young people.

Standing Tall- Christmas Celebration

This week, we held our final Standing Tall mentoring session for 2023 with a Christmas party. We ate lots of lovely food from the Standing Tall crew, decorated gingerbread biscuits, listened to Christmas songs and played bingo.  Next year, we will be expanding our Standing Tall program, with new students coming to Monivae from Grade 6 who are already involved in this fabulous program. We would like to thank all of the mentors, who volunteer their time, to come into Monivae for one hour a week and hang out with their mentees and Dee, Mel and Bec from Standing Tall. It has been such a rewarding time every week, and we have seen significant growth in personal development skills throughout the year with all participants.

Holiday Supports

Our Wellbeing Hub team will be taking a VERY well-deserved break over the Christmas holidays and will be unavailable via telephone or email. If you should require wellbeing support for your young person over the holidays, please see a number of helpful resources below and ways parents/carers can support young people.

Thanks to the Wellbeing Hub team: Katee Mitchell, Belinda Carroll and Matthew Crane for a fantastic year.

Have a safe and happy holidays, see you all in 2024.
