Cadet Report

CAPT Sarah Byron

Introducing the 2024 Cadet Captain and RSM of the cadet unit.

Hi all, I am SGT Stella Raymond, the RSM and cadet captain in 2024. I am currently going into my fifth year of cadets. I have been on a range of different courses such as the Junior Leadership Course, Exercise Emu, Specialist Course - Advanced First Aid and Survival Course, and Senior Leadership. Next week I am heading back up to Puckapunyal to complete the CUO/Warrant Officer course.

As the RSM of the unit, I have set goals to improve and achieve more for the unit in 2024. These goals include: to improve the units drill, regular meetings with platoon commanders and CSM's to make sure everything runs smoothly on cadet days, raising the standards of uniform and lastly making sure each platoon has high team morale! Overall I am aiming for the unit to be a supportive, fun and structured environment for all cadets to learn, build their resilience, increase effective teamwork and grow as leaders!

During my time in cadets, I have faced some challenges and strengthened my resilience to get to where I am as a leader today. Some of those challenges consist of being scared or worried about talking in front of people, always doubting my knowledge, facing conflict with difficult cadets and some more small issues I have faced. Yet all of these challenges have led me to grow as a leader! Some of my favourite things about cadets would be meeting new people on courses, calling drill, taking first aid lessons and lastly cam and con activities.
