SCC General Notices

Front Entrance

Thank you for your patience as we have navigated the closure of our main entrance to the administration block because of wet carpets after the downpour of rain last week.

We expect to be able to reopen  the lower hall on Friday afternoon but will update families by SMS to confirm this.

Congratulations!

Geography students from Southern Christian College tested their geographical skills and knowledge against students from all around Australia in the 2023 Australian Geography Competition.

We have a number of student geographers at our school who performed to a very high level in the Competition this year with one in the top 1% in their Year Level across Australia, three gaining high distinctions, four distinctions and three credits.

During Secondary Assembly this week we congratulated Angus in Grade 10 who came first in Tasmania. Well done Angus!

Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival

Grade 3-6 athletic champions competed against other schools in the Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival last Friday. We worked as a team and showed amazing sportsmanship. Our school was represented well, and students showed respect and support for each other and those from other schools. We had a great day, and finished by winning most of the relays. Well done everyone!

Remembrance Day

On Saturday Mrs Bennett accompanied student leaders, Bonnie Pollard and Jeremiah Ambrose, to the Kingston Beach Remembrance Day Service. Our Southern Christian College representatives had the privilege to lay a sheaf in front of the war memorial to show our school’s respect to all of those who had fought in the First World War, and the generations who have followed them in the service of our country and the cause of peace. The service took place on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am to signify the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the fighting of the First World War.

It was a day to pay our respects, and also to learn wisdom from those who had served. We, as a school community, will remember those who laid their lives for us so we could live a better life today.

We will remember them. Lest we forget. ~ Bonnie Pollard

Year 7 Transition Day

On Tuesday 5 December, current and prospective Year 6 students will have a Year 7 Transition Day. This will be a full day of engaging activities and challenges designed to introduce students to new peers, staff, subjects and facilities. The day also includes a free pizza lunch on the Secondary Plaza. Existing SCC students will start and end the day in their normal Home Room classes. New students will meet in the Lower Hall at 9am.

All students are to wear their school’s sports uniform.

Parking on Redwood Road - REMINDER

We currently have 3 buses that collect students from the College after school on Redwood Road at the bus stop. At times we can have 3 buses arrive all at once, which means that the buses need more than one spot to stop and wait.

To ensure that our school children can get on the buses safely, we do need to ask that you please leave the area above the bus stop clear for the buses to use.

There is plenty of parking space available below the bus stop and around the corner into Cassia place.

We will need to ask drivers to move from the area above the bus stop if they are parked there in the future to ensure our students are safe.

Save the Term 4 Dates!

Please note an amended date for the Infant Athletics Carnival which has now been changed to Wednesday 22 November (originally 27 November).

The Infant Celebration Event was listed twice on the copy sent home to families. The correct date is Wednesday 29 November (NOT 5 Dec).

We have had a number of incidences of Gastroenteritis over the past week. Please be advised that children are not to return to school until they have been free from vomiting or diarrhoea for at least 48 hours from their last episode.
