Dear Parents and Carers,

With only a few weeks left of Term, our students are getting ready to move to their new grades, build new relationships and reconnect with peers in their new grades. As we reflect on the year, your child’s report will become available on the 11th of December via Compass. This Semester, growth is only shown from the middle of the year, whereas previously it was from 12 months before. In reading all of our students reports, all parents should be proud of the growth their child has made.

This week our Grade 5 students have taken the opportunity to showcase their outstanding public speaking and presentation skills through running for school leadership positions. Our students all spoke exceptionally well, articulated their thoughts and plans for the future of Somerville. Regardless of if your child is successful with a particular leadership role, we have a very strong cohort of 2024 Grade 6 students to lead the student body.

The next 2 weeks are extremely busy for all students at Somerville.

We have:

  • Grades 5-6 Bike Ed Excursion tomorrow
  • Grade 5-6 Market on the 5th
  • Christmas Concert on the 6th, starting at 5pm
  • Reading Nights Party on the 7th
  • Graduation on the 11th
  • Reports will be made live to parents on the 11th at 4pm via Compass.
  • Statewide Transition Day on the 12th – students will meet their new teachers, the peers in their classes, find-out the location of their classrooms and complete some new activities in their 2024 Grades.
  • The Grade 4s are heading to Somerville Secondary as part of their Transition program on the 14th.
  • The Grade 6 students are heading off on their celebration day on the 14th as well!
  • We have our final whole school assembly on Friday the 15th of December, beginning at 9am.
  • Our School Choir will be singing at the Somerville Christmas Carols at the Fruit Growers Reserve on the 15th of December from 6pm.
  • Our last day with students is Monday the 18th of December. Students will finish at the normal time of 3:15p.m.
