Fair Highlights

Thanks to all who participated in shaping the School Fair on Saturday. Over this week, I have talked to many students who all have a different view of their highlights. Students mentioned the chance to be with friends, the Meltdown rides, the dunk tank (not my favourite) and others spending money at the stalls! One particular student responded, ‘I was really proud of my performance’. While the profit from the Fair is still to be tabulated, it is clear that the event was a huge success, in many different ways.

A special thanks to all those in the Fair Committee who tirelessly worked to bring the event together. Although their effort came to a climax on Saturday, their effort has been evident over the entire year.

We’re adding photos to our television in the foyer of the school, so would welcome any chance to add to the collection of photos. If you have a USB drive with images we would love to add them to the memories.

FORPS Picnic

A reminder to pencil in your diary, Friday 8 December! It’s the end of year picnic for family and friends. This low-key afternoon/evening is a simple chance to enjoy a gentle wind down for the year. Bring a rug and a picnic while a range of sporting equipment will be made available for students. More information concerning times will be forwarded soon.

2024 Class Structure

As we prepare for 2024 we acknowledge that enrolments are still unsettled. Some parents are finding the need to move out of our suburb and change schools. We are also continuing to receive phone calls regarding new enrolments that require us to redraft plans and structures for 2024. I am very conscious that while we have settled on a preferred model, it has changed in the past week and may continue to change prior to the start of Term 1. The current structure is dictated by the creation of balanced classes across the school. At the moment, classes in 2024 will be;

Foundation, Foundation
1/2, 1/2, 1/2, 1/2
2/3, 3/4, 3/4, 3/4
4/5, 5/6, 5/6, 5/6

The specialist program will continue to be Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music and the Performing Arts and Italian.

VicSRC Awards Tonight

Students in our Junior School Council are attending the VicSRC (Victorian Student Representative Council) Awards tonight. We were thrilled to hear of their success at being nominated as finalists in the awards. While we are all excited about what the evening might hold, we are thrilled simply to be shaped by their ideas and passion for student agency in learning.

Crossing Davies Street

I received another report this week concerning dangerous pedestrian behaviour along Davies Street. We encourage all families who use the parking along the Davies Street Shops, to cross the road at either the lower or upper crossing points. The lower crossing on the intersection of Bellevue Street is staffed before and after school. The small pedestrian gate on Davey Street will be locked ensuring access from Davies street is only through the gate at the lower crossing.

WARNING: Scientists Emerging

While the 3/4 Learning Area participated in a science incursion around different sciences last week, our Prep students ventured to the Melbourne Museum to explore the world of bugs! It is wonderful to see our students enriched by such wonder at the world around them, linking their learning with life. We may all be wearing lab coats in the next reiteration of the school uniform!

Volunteers Morning Tea – General Invite

Another date for the diary. On 13 December between 11:00am and 11:30am, staff will be hosting the Volunteers Morning Tea. While we would like to think that we know and have all our volunteers registered, we are conscious that there are many who like to volunteer incognito. We are always worried of missing people, so before we issue our formal invites I wanted to apologise if we miss you!

Anaphylaxis Reminder – Minimising the Risk of Exposure to Student Allergens

At this time, as we head into our festive season, there is a temptation to send in food items. We are always alert to the possible introduction of allergen materials that may put the health of students at risk. Parents are aware of our ‘no food sharing’ practices at school. I request parents also not to send in edible goods for other students whether it be for parties or festive moments. Please speak with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions. Instrumentalists Take Centre Stage

Many of us tasted the wonderful skills of many of our instrumentalists on the stage at the School Fair on the weekend. Don’t miss out on another chance to encourage their talents at the instrumentalist afternoon in Chandler Hall on Monday 11 December after school. For those considering enrolling their child/ren in the instrumentalist program it will be a chance to hear a little of what goes on! All are welcome to join us!
