A message from Stage 2
Welcome back to Term 3! We are excited for another busy and successful term ahead. Our classes will be going on an excursion to Thalgarrah early in the term, where students will have the chance to be a scientist for a day.
We would like to warmly welcome Mrs Chene Saayman who will be teaching S2B this term. We look forward to working with her as part of the Stage 2 team.
Please email your child’s teacher directly or call the office to set up an appointment if you would like to discuss any concerns or speak with your child's teacher. Thank you for your continued support in your child's educational journey.
In the first Stage 2 English unit this term, we will be exploring the novel Fire by Jackie French, alongside the beautiful poetry found in the book Bindi. Fire captivates students with themes of friendship, adventure, and resilience, encouraging them to think critically about the environment and the impact of fire on natural landscapes. In addition to their exploration of Fire students will delve into poetry inspired by Bindi which offers rich imagery and connections to nature and cultural themes. Students will have the opportunity to write their own poems, experimenting with different forms and styles, allowing them to express their thoughts and emotions creatively.
This term, our Stage 2 mathematics program will focus on several key areas to build and strengthen your child's mathematical skills. Students will explore 2D shapes, where they will have the opportunity to identify and name various properties of these shapes, enhancing geometric understanding. Students will delve into measuring angles within 2D shapes, providing opportunities to determine and compare angles, which is crucial for spatial reasoning development. Students will also engage with activities involving whole numbers and multiplicative strategies to reinforce their understanding of multiplication and division.
In our upcoming lessons, students will explore the properties of different materials and how these properties influence their uses in everyday life. They will learn to describe various materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, and fabric by examining their characteristics like texture, flexibility, strength, and durability. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students will discover how the specific properties of each material determine its suitability for different purposes, such as why certain materials are used for building structures, clothing, or packaging.
