English
Our students have made a start on their new novels for the term. We are reading a range of genres, but each has teaching around comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. We have continued our reading fluency in each class to ensure our students are reading with speed and accuracy.
Maths
We are now seeing huge improvements in our student’s stamina and retention in their maths. Their ability to concentrate for the whole 48 minutes continues to increase and the use of daily reviews has meant that they are now retaining information better because they are seeing it 3 to 4 times over a fortnight.
Athletics
We have been in full swing on our athletics training. This is one of the favourite times of the year as students enjoy the challenge of improving in either the jumping disciplines or running or throwing. Our primary students will enjoy the challenge of Athletics Day today and our secondary students in a week’s time.
TA – The Resilience Project
We welcomed our students back to school focusing on unpacking key mental health terms such as anxiety and depression. Through the first week, students were presented with some key vocabulary around anxiety and depression to understand exactly what each term means. Students have since begun to focus on the factors that affect our mental health and potentially lead to anxiety and depression.
Our focus has led us to unpack our mental batteries and discover that sleep, connection, movement, rest and nourishment are all key elements of our day to day lives and when we form bad habits with these elements, it can cause us to have difficulty concentrating, learning, socialising and feeling at our best.
Week two content specifically has focused on sleep. How we obtain sleep, why it is good for us, what things can lead to poor sleep and how poor sleep affects us in everyday life as well as at school.
In the coming weeks students will consolidate this through focusing on social connection, rest, exercise and nutrition to make up our mental health battery.
