100 Days of School Reminder
A reminder that Foundation students will be celebrating their 100th day of school next Thursday, 7th August.
Families and friends are warmly invited to attend our special morning to celebrate this special day starting in the Kildare Auditorium at 9.10am.
Swimming
At the end of Term 2, our Foundation students took part in the Learn to Swim program at the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre. Over several fun-packed sessions, the students gained confidence in the water through guided activities like floating, kicking and safe pool entry. We are grateful to staff at the Echuca Pool for hosting this enriching experience and to Matt, our school bus driver, for getting us to and from Echuca each day. Our students returned with valuable skills, confidence and a big smile.
Feedback from the children was enthusiastic.
“Look, I’m not drowning!”
“I picked up a sinker off the bottom of the pool for the first time ever!”
“I loved swimming.”
Years 1 and 2
Welcome back to Term 3 from all in the Years 1/2 area.
We welcome Mr Nick Mellington into the Year 2 learning space. Nick is working Monday to Wednesday taking over from Mrs Leah Sherman.
All students will have a new take home reading booklet to sign in their nightly reading. It is important that students are regularly reading at home to consolidate and practice their skills. We are working towards smooth and fluent reading and discussing key ideas from what we are reading.
In RE we are completing a unit on Jesus' Story. Thank you to students and families who have brought in a favourite book to share to begin this learning.
In Mathematics, the Year 1s have been learning about and comparing length. We have enjoyed measuring and comparing our feet and other objects from around the classroom. The Year 2s have been exploring multiplication and addition using arrays.
In Inquiry we have begun an exciting unit on procedure writing. Students enjoyed discussing the importance of giving clear instructions when making fairy bread last week. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at procedures for how to brush our teeth, make playdough, make a volcano and how to make popcorn.
At the end of last term we all enjoyed our week of swimming in Echuca. It was wonderful to see the confidence and independence students demonstrated both in and out of the pool.
Years 3 and 4
The Years 3 and 4 students are getting their hands dirty in their new Inquiry unit, Dig Deep! They have become geologists and have been exploring rocks and soil from various locations. The students had great fun using magnifying glasses and sieves to study the colour, texture and other observable features of different soils samples. We have collected lots of interesting rocks from around the school and some students have brought in their own rock collection for us to explore.
Last Sunday, 27th July, Willow N represented our College in the Lions Club Public Speaking Competition in Tongala. Willow did a wonderful job and has progressed to the next level of the competition which will be held in Numurkah.
Congratulations, Willow!
The Year 3s have begun their new novel, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and the Year 4s are reading the Australian classic, Storm Boy by Colin Thiele.
