"God doesn’t make rubbish” - Bishop Joseph Grech
Dear Parents, Carers and Members of the St Augustine’s College Community,
As we move into Term 3, we are once again reminded of the vibrant life of our College – a place filled with activity, growth and opportunity. This term is traditionally a busy one and 2025 is proving no different. Our calendar is brimming with sporting events, excursions, House athletics, interschool competitions, and of course, the much-anticipated College Production of Shrek Junior, which will take centre stage later this term. Add in our St Augustine’s Feast Day Mass/Family Picnic as well as our Beaut Blokes Breakfast/Liturgy and Lone Pine Ceremony and we have a full calendar!
Recently, I had the privilege of attending the Bishop Joseph Grech Scholarship Awards Luncheon, where three of our exceptional students (Charlie I, Neve P and Lily-May S) were recognised and awarded scholarships for their contributions and potential. It was a moving celebration, not just for their families and our school, but for the broader message that underpins the scholarship itself – that each young person is precious, capable and filled with purpose.
Bishop Joe was known for saying, “God doesn’t make rubbish.” This simple but powerful truth continues to guide and inspire Catholic communities across our Diocese. It reminds us that every student in our care is made in the image and likeness of God – with inherent dignity, unique gifts and the potential to do great things. Here at St Augustine’s, we are privileged to witness the unfolding of those gifts every day – in the classroom, on the sporting field, on stage, in service and in the quiet acts of kindness that so often go unseen.
The incredible talents and achievements of our students so far this year have been nothing short of inspiring. Whether representing the College with pride in sport, rehearsing tirelessly for the upcoming production or striving for personal excellence in their learning, they show us what’s possible when young people are given the right environment to thrive.
I thank our dedicated staff for the many hours they invest in creating these opportunities – and for nurturing the gifts of every student. And I thank you, our families, for your ongoing partnership and support.
Let us continue to celebrate the diverse talents within our community, and be reminded that every young person has been created with love, value and purpose.
