NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our school and our wider community.
On Monday July 28 we welcomed a number of guests from the community to help us celebrate NAIDOC. The theme this year is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. We were excited to have students and staff from Ashmont Public School join us in the Marian Centre to share Aboriginal dances and stories. Aunty Joycelyn came to share Dreamtime stories and explore them in artworks, while Aunty Evelyn and Aunty Cheryl showed us how to weave bracelets. The ADF returned this year with a number of cadets and Year 7 enjoyed games in the Hall.
Transgrid Wiradjuri Program
On Tuesday 29 July, the Transgrid Discovery Hub hosted a series of immersive Wiradjuri Workshops. Students delved into ancestral knowledge and modern technology, exploring everything from the intricate art of traditional weaving to the creative possibilities of 3D animation and AI.
The hands-on sessions also included uncovering the timeless power of storytelling, creating essential oils from native plants, and learning the significance of cultural artefacts from the local environment.
Digital Thumbprints Presentation
Students in Years 7 to 11 participated in the Digital Thumbprint program, presented by the team from Optus. The workshops delivered powerful insights into the critical topics of cyberbullying and digital identity.
This session was especially pertinent as it equipped students with essential skills for navigating the online world, particularly with new social media age restrictions coming into effect December 2025.
Optus offers a range of resources for families which can be found here.
