Year 9 German Students Serve Up Language Skills with a Side of Creativity!

On Thursday of Week 8 last term, my Year 9 German class transformed the classroom into a bustling German restaurant, showcasing their language skills through a creative and authentic dialogue presentation.

In pairs, the students worked collaboratively to write a script and perform a restaurant scenario entirely in German, demonstrating their ability to order food, describe dishes, and handle payments, all with impressive pronunciation and fluency.

The classroom buzzed with excitement as students brought their dialogues to life, complete with costumes and props to enhance the realism of their performances.

It was amazing to see the contagious enthusiasm of the Year 9 students, drawing in special guests Ms Clarke and Mr O’Connell, who were delighted to take part in the immersive experience.

“What a great experience for the students and myself. I loved seeing the Year 9s show-off their fantastic language skills. I even learnt a few phrases myself!” – Ms Clarke

“It was a genuine experience, and the students used well-rehearsed dialogue to effectively engage their audience. It was great to see the students focused on using German in a realistic setting.” – Mr O’Connell

“I really enjoyed the restaurant task, I learnt lots about how to order at a restaurant and the task felt real. It was a really good experience” – Darby Griffiths (Year 9)

I’m very proud of my Year 9 class!

This engaging activity not only reinforced vocabulary and conversational structures but also encouraged students to step into

real-world roles and use German in a meaningful context. It was a fantastic display of creativity, collaboration, and linguistic confidence.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch to all involved!

Year 10 Creating Careers Day Inspires Future Pathways

Late last term our Year 10 students participated in an engaging and informative Creating Careers Day, designed to help them explore a wide range of post-school opportunities and future pathways.

A highlight of the day was the Q&A Panel featuring eight industry experts from diverse sectors including marketing, project management, published author, trades, creative arts, community services and a local member of parliament.

The panelists generously shared their insights, experiences, and advice on how to navigate career choices in their respective fields, sparking thoughtful questions and discussion among the students.

In addition, students attended presentations from leading Universities and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

These sessions provided valuable information on further education options, including university degrees, TAFE qualifications, and apprenticeship pathways.

The representatives offered practical guidance on course selection, entry requirements, and tips for transitioning from school to further study or employment.

The Year 10 Creating Careers Day proved to be an eye-opening experience, equipping the cohort with the tools, inspiration, and knowledge to begin planning their futures with confidence.

We thank our guest speakers and education partners for their contributions and support in making this event a success.

Business Innovation:

Business Expo

In Week 8 of Term 2, our Year 10 Business and Economics students showcased their entrepreneurial prowess in a Business Expo. They set up booths and delivered enthusiastic pitches featuring innovative business ideas, ranging from flash card creators and insect repellent patches to biometric locks and virtual reality services to help migrants assimilate into Australian workplaces.

Our guest assessor, Fiona Goodsite from

AI-lecture assistant business Tutbob, was impressed with the calibre of the students' ideas and encouraged students to continue pursuing entrepreneurial skills, which are valuable beyond the classroom.

Students were also assessed by two teachers and a group of Year 12 Business students, who gave constructive feedback to help the Year 10s reflect and improve on their business ideas.

Below are some student comments about their experience:

The Business Expo gave me an insight on the basics of business and entrepreneurship acting as a 'taster' if I ever decide to pursue business and entrepreneurship in the future. - Samarth

The Business Expo allowed me to get a realistic idea on how my product would be viewed and let me understand my own product deeper as I was asked about things I might not have even thought about before. - Sarah

The Business Expo allowed me to collaborate with new people and think outside the box. The feedback from our guest speaker and Year 12s was very valuable and helped us to look at things from different perspectives. - Simran

Seeing the other stalls also taught me how different businesses can solve different problems. Overall, the Expo showed me how challenging but rewarding entrepreneurship can be. -Maya

Relay for Change

On Friday 4 July, our Year 12 students proudly took part in the ‘Relay for Change’ which is a fundraising initiative committed to creating meaningful impact. The event brought a rich learning experience, designed to inspire empathy, critical thinking, and action.

Over five weeks prior to event day, student teams devised creative ways to raise funds in support of refugee children’s access to education. Their efforts included a pottery sale, bake sale, a raffle, Uno tournament, teacher fun, soccer competition, Half Court Zingers, and a lolly jar and keyring stall.

The top fundraising team earned a significant advantage heading into the Relay itself.

On event day, teams raced against the clock, working collaboratively to tackle as many challenge stations as possible and collect valuable tokens. Each station challenged students to step into the shoes of people in developing communities through hands-on activities such as sandal making, building shelters, making soccer balls, refugee voices, water bucket race, embracing play, and the continuous baton. Each challenge was a simulation of the lived realities of children living in refugee camps.

The event culminated in a high-energy token run, where Mr Harten’s class emerged as the overall winners.

Huge congratulations to Madison, Sabra, Thomas, Nathan, Mai, Precious, Rachel, Hai, Jamie, and Amity, for their outstanding effort and teamwork!

The final fundraising total was phenomenal, providing education to over 120 refugee children.

This is equal to the size of our Year 12 cohort. A remarkable impact.

The ‘Relay for Change’ event is more than a fundraiser; it is a call to action. It empowers students to use their talents in service of others, and reminds us all that true community is built when we put others’ needs ahead of our own.

A heartfelt thank you to our Community and Events Coordinator, Marketing Manager, Property Manager, and Finance Team for their invaluable support.

And an equally massive thank you to all Year 12 teams and community members whose contributions made the event possible.

This was a wonderful way to finish a highly successful semester.
