Community Network

On Friday 8th August the members of the Community Network met for the second time this term to discuss a range of topics over a lovely hot (or cold drink).

After being very lucky to have Mr Ryan Condron visit our last meeting, this week we had another special visitor attend. Mr John Hoskin (who is the Classroom Teacher in 2JH and the VPS Literacy Learning Specialist) came to talk about next week's Book Week.

As a Community Network member, there are always opportunities to discuss future school events. Mr Hoskin discussed the vision of what we were trying to achieve with a Student Book Swap and the members were very good at contributing their ideas of how it could work.

As a result, we now have a special activity where children can bring a maximum of 2 books to school (by 19th August) that they do not want to keep anymore, but still in good condition. Then in Book Week, they get the opportunity to choose another book that someone else wanted to swap. Look for details about this event on the Literacy Page.

In addition, the parents had the idea of a Parent Book Swap. They will be asked if they would like to swap (a maximum) of 2 books. They can give them to their children to place in the adult tubs. They can be different languages, genres and styles. Then on Friday 22nd of August, all parents can come along and collect another book to take home.

Linking this to our next Sip and Chat was a great idea. So on Friday afternoon, the community network will be offering our school community, who are picking up their children, some tea or coffee or cold drinks with some lovely afternoon tea. Then they get to peruse through the books to see what they would enjoy.

Finally, we discussed the upcoming father's Day Stall to ensure everyone was ready for that busy week and activities that we could help the School Production with.

Once again, here are a few dates to place in your diaries:

18th August: Book Week

19th August: last day to bring in books to swap

22nd August: Sip and Chat (2:30pm to 3:15pm) and parent book swap

1st September: Father's Day Picnic (12:30pm - 1:10pm)

3rd September: Father's Day Stall (Day 1)

4th September: Father's Day Stall (Day 2)

Here are the details of the Sip and Chat on the 22nd August. We hope to see you there!

Here is the poster with some of the amazing items that are available at the Father's Day Stall. This poster will be distributed around the school to view soon. This will enable you to be super organised for the special day.
