Year 6 students have stayed very busy over the last fortnight, with a busy combination of lessons in the classroom and other activities including production rehearsals, Lego robotics sessions, ICAS competitions and Summer Sport training sessions. We anticipate this level excitement continuing for the remainder of term!
Throughout the year, the students have investigated and applied the traits of writing to their work through a focus on the 6 + 1 Writing Traits program. Last week, the 'Conventions' trait was highlighted with students required to carefully monitor their use of grammar and punctuation and carefully check for spelling mistakes in their work.
Whilst editing their work last week, the children devised different physical actions to match specific forms of punctuation or grammar that were missing or to notify when a spelling mistake was present eg. 'a foot stomp for noticing a missing full-stop' or 'a clap for a missing capital letter'. This resulted in some hilarity for all participants when it came time to act out the editing of a passage of work. There are some photos of 6GP students in editing action below:
There are still a small number of Year 6 students breaching the school's food policies by chewing gum at school. Parents are reminded that their children should not be bringing chewing gum to school under any circumstances.
The Year 6 Graduation Committee are excited to be running a competition over the next fortnight where students are given the chance to guess the number of Skittles in a large jar. The cost of entering will be $1 for 3 guesses or 50c for 1 guess. Students can come to the Learning Centre at any recess time over the fortnight to enter their guesses. All proceeds will go towards the Year 6 graduation night at the end of the year.
A reminder that payment is now due via Compass for the upcoming Year 6 'Newsroom' incursion, taking place on Thursday 11th of September. The cost of the whole-day incursion is $27.50. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any queries about this.
