Book Week Reminders

On Monday, 18th August, we will hold our Book Week Parade during assembly. Students are encouraged to dress up as a character from a book they have read. Later in the week, we have a special visit from Mark Wilson who is an author and illustrator and we will see him on Thursday, 21st August. We are looking forward to hearing about his creative journey! 

Vegetable Growth Update

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, students have been closely observing the growth of plants in our classroom. It’s been exciting to watch the green onions and carrot tops grow taller each day! We’ve included some photos below so you can see the progress for yourself.

ICAS Competition

The Writing and English ICAS competitions have now been completed, with only two more subjects left to go.

What's happening in the classrooms:

Writing

This week, our writing lessons have focused on making strong and exciting word choices. We explored how to use figurative language, vivid adjectives, powerful verbs, descriptive adverbs, and sensory details (sight, touch, smell, sound, and taste) to add depth to our writing. This also helps the students to expand their ideas. Below are photos a writing activity in 4JS.

Literacy

Students have been enjoying Literature Circles this term, taking on specific roles and responsibilities within their teams. Our class has also been captivated by our novel study of Wonder, sparking great discussions and reflections. Take a look at some of the moments captured during Literature Circles in 4VN!

Maths

Our unit on angles is wrapping up this week, and to finish in style, students have designed and built their very own mini-golf courses. They began by brainstorming the layout and adding creative obstacles, including 2D shapes, bridges, and even tunnels. Once their designs were complete, students considered the angles of their shots and measured them using protractors.
