What's on in the Classroom?
Literacy
Students have been hard at work using their organisation skills for Writing. They have used fairy tales like 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'The Three Little Pigs' to find Characters, Settings, and the Beginning, Middle and End of the story. In Week 4 the students tried to persuade Mrs Caldarelli why they thought The Pigeon should Drive the Bus!
Mathematics
In Mathematics students have been finishing off learning about different types of graphs, and why we use different graphs. They have been having fun using Purple Mash on the computers to make and compare graphs using digital technology. In Week 4 students have re visited locations, looking at mazes with a focus on the language students use.
As students are continuing to demonstrate a variety of strategies for multiplication and division, including repeated addition, skip counting and arrays. They have been busy making Vegetable Gardens using arrays, check out the array of vegetables in their gardens.
Inquiry
We have been learning about "Ramp it up", students explored how higher ramps cause the toy car to be pushed further, using hands on experiments. We discussed where you may see ramps and what they are used for in real life.
In the second lesson students learnt to "Level it", identifying how a lever transmits pushes and pulls. Students discussed why different balls create different pushes rolling down the same ramp.
Friday Focus
In Week 3 students learnt about possession adjectives in Friday Focus, including his, her, our, your, its and their. Students have been learning about different suffixes including 'ful' as in joyful and useful and 'less' as in useless and breathless. We have also been learning about better word choices including 'gasping', a verb, meaning to take a sudden short breath in surprise.
Show and Tell
Week 5 and 6
Bring a favourite book
Special Request from ART
Next week in Art the students will be starting a construction activity with boxes we would like it if you could please bring in a small to medium sized box from home that they could use as a base? Large Cereal boxes would be too big, but the smaller size would be ok.
Thank you very much
Ms Simpson
