Dear Families,
On Thursday, our students began a Rosary Program led by parishioner Mary Schulberg. We’ve chosen August for this special program, as it’s another month that honours Mary, and it also falls during the time when our First Communion candidates are preparing for their sacrament.
The students are learning how to pray the Rosary and are beginning to understand why it’s such an important part of our faith.
Well done to all our students for showing such reverence as we came together to celebrate the Feast Day of Mary MacKillop with our school Mass.
A big thank you to the families who were able to join us – it was lovely to have you there.
On Monday, students wore crazy socks to raise funds for the Opening Doors Foundation. The school raised $485 and the students enjoyed wearing their fun socks!
Two Important Reminders:
Next week we are learning about...
Religious Education Focus
Students continue our learning with Mary Schulberg about the Rosary on Thursday, this is especially relevant as we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on Friday.
English Focus
Students are exploring the connections between the book and the movie of The Wild Robot. They are encouraged to critique what is different to the book, particularly as the movie contains musical elements that are emotive. As the movie progresses discussion points are included for regular interactions and to build understanding about what is occurring, making connections to real world issues such as Artificial Intelligence.
The students are also building knowledge about cause and effect, as they explore advertising. We continue to practise skills to promote legible, joined handwriting.
Mathematics Focus
This week students will begin the second component of multiplication and division with a focus on multiplying numbers using the distributive property strategy, and both expanded and contracted vertical algorithm methods.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR
In our unit 'Gender norms and stereotypes' students are learning about what rights and responsibilities are, and their differences. Students will be able to identify who help keep their rights safe.
Auslan Focus
In the coming week, the student review our learning from throughout this term. This is done through reminder videos, reenactment with peers, games and movement activities.
