English Focus:

Reading:

We continued reading our class novel Once by Morris Gleitzman. This week, Felix rescues a girl named Zelda from a burning house and takes her with him on his journey to find his parents. As they travel together, Felix learns that Zelda’s family supported the Nazis, though she doesn’t understand the truth. Along the way, the children face growing danger, and Felix begins to see the harsh reality of the war, losing some of his innocence.

Writing:

In Writing, students continued to develop their skills in using relative clauses, nominalisation, and note-taking. They began planning and drafting the body paragraphs of their information reports on Poland, with a focus on its location and significant landmarks.

Mathematics Focus:

In Mathematics, students began exploring decimals, focusing on multiplying and dividing decimals and whole numbers by powers of 10. They also investigated how the associative property can support efficient problem-solving when working with decimals.

Integrated Studies Focus:

In Integrated Studies, students continued to learn to recognise and celebrate their personal strengths and the qualities that make them unique.

Auslan Learning Focus

In Auslan, students learned family-related signs, including my family, mum, mummy, mother, dad, daddy, father, sister, brother, stepbrother, and stepsister.

SEL Learning Focus:

This week, students continued their learning about gender norms and stereotypes and explored examples of inclusive language. They applied this understanding through class discussions and group activities, reflecting on how language can be used to promote respect and equality.
