Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

It’s been a fun and busy start to the week in Grade 5! On Monday, students embraced Crazy Socks and Shoes Day with lots of colour and creativity. It was wonderful to see so many participate and contribute generously to the Opening the Doors Foundation – thank you for your support!

On Tuesday, our students gave their best effort in the AMC (Australian Mathematics Competition). We’re proud of everyone for taking on the challenge and demonstrating our school-wide expectations by doing their best.

A quick reminder that School Photo Catch-up Day is next Tuesday, 12th August. This will also include Sibling Photos, so please ensure students are in full school uniform.

Thank you for your continued support!

Next week we will be learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

Children will be learning how to sit with Jesus, like Mary, and hear God's Word. They will be exploring how Scripture nourishes and energises us during our own faith journey.

English Focus

Students will continue reading 'Tom Appleby Convict Boy' by Jackie French. The students are enjoying the story of Tom which is set in 18th Century. In English the students will continue to analyse the vocabulary in the text as well as adding to their writing of an Information Report. The focus next week will be on body paragraphs using the SPO (Single Paragraph Outline).

Mathematics Focus

The students will continue deepening their understanding of decimals. The children will be renaming decimal numbers and using numbers with more than two decimal places for measurement of length and mass.

Auslan Focus

Next week we will be reviewing the signs from Unit 6. They will take part in a signed game where they will need to communicate their thoughts, showing their understanding or confusion.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Next week students will be discussing what the cyber bullying is and what laws apply for cyber bullying.

Integrated Studies:

This week the children practiced how to celebrate strengths of others through role-play activities. Next week the children will be learning to recognise and value their differences and reflect on how comparison can affect their self esteem.
