Foundation News

Welcome back to Term 3! We’re already at the halfway mark of the year, and there’s so much to celebrate and be proud of. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed a well-deserved break. From the fantastic holiday recounts we’ve seen, it sounds like there were plenty of adventures, with lots of places visited, birthdays celebrated, and fun times relaxing at home.

This week is especially exciting as we celebrate our 100 Days of School! We can’t wait to share some of the highlights from the day in our next newsletter.

This term, our inquiry focus is all about our community: where we live, the places we go, and the special helpers who support us. In Mathematics, we’ve been exploring addition strategies, including counting all, counting on, friends of ten, doubles, and near doubles.

We’re looking forward to another great term filled with learning, growth, and fun!

100 Days of School Celebration – Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our 100 Days of School celebration is happening tomorrow!

Please make sure your child arrives at school wearing their decorated t-shirt over their uniform. We can’t wait to see all the amazing designs!

The parade will take place at 9:15am on the basketball court. Families are welcome to attend. Please stand around the outside of the court and be mindful of the speaker setup.

We’re looking forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with you all!

Year 1 News

Learning About Eid

This term, our Grade 1 students are exploring how people celebrate and commemorate different events in their own ways. As part of our Knowledge Building Unit, we have learned about Harmony Week and the importance of inclusivity and respect. We have also looked at how millions of people celebrate Lunar New Year, with traditions like red envelopes, the lion dance, fireworks, and family feasts.

A highlight of the unit for this week was learning about Eid and Ramadan. We were lucky to have Ibby (5/6A) and Alicia (5/6B) visit our classrooms to teach us about their experiences as proud Muslim students. They shared how and when Eid is celebrated and even taught us some important Arabic phrases, like “Eid Mubarak.” It was a wonderful way to learn more about different cultures and the special traditions that bring people together.

Year 3/4 News

The 3/4 students are reading 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown. In the novel, Roz camouflages herself for days and simply observes the forest.

Here are some observations some of the students have made.

Year 5/6 News

Market Manoeuvres Incursion

On Wednesday afternoon we had an incursion about money and the economy. In this Market Manoeuvres incursion, we played 3 games to learn more about inflation and supply and demand. In the last game we had to make 3 types of houses and each round the houses would have different values depending on where the house was built.

On the 29th and 30th of July 2025, all Year 5/6 classes took part in a 90-minute Market Manoeuvres incursion. This activity tied into our term’s theme of taxes, work, and the economy.

Throughout the session, we explored important things like needs and wants, supply and demand, and how businesses work. One of the main activities was a large group game where everyone was split into three teams—Red, Blue, and Green. Each team included three main roles:

  • Buyers, who dashed between the supplier and the home table to collect Lego bricks in cups. Each cup had a set money value.
  • Consumers, who acted as multi-millionaires and were responsible for tallying up their team’s houses built from Lego bricks and making sure everything was fair.
  • Suppliers, who kept track of the bricks purchased and calculated the total costs owed by the buyers.

The rest of the team members took on the role of builders, working together to construct Lego houses for their team’s total value.

Out of them all my favourite game we played was called dots and bells which was similar to musical chairs except we had a dots on the floor and a bell rings when we had to land on a dot, each round the instructor took away three dots until we were left with a few people and at the end there was only one dot left and then the instructor explained how because the dot was in low demand at the start so it was worth less money but it was in high demand at the end so it was worth more money.

This term in STEM, classes are exploring Chemical Sciences through a range of experiments. We’ve begun by investigating the States of Matter: solids, liquids, and gases, and will continue to build on this learning throughout the term.

Year 1 & 2  -  by Harry B and Isla E

We have been exploring different materials and how we can change how they look. For example, if you left a candle on for a long time it would eventually melt into a puddle of wax.

This week, we experimented with the material modelling clay and we made different characters and animals. Here are some examples:

Year 3 & 4 by Siena and Ellis

Last week, we created Oobleck by mixing cornflour and water to find out if it was a solid or a liquid. We found that it was both a solid and a liquid and is called a non-Newtonian fluid. We could poke and punch the Oobleck and it was solid but when we picked it up it was like a liquid.

This week, we created rain clouds in a jar using water, blue food dye, shaving cream and pipettes. Here are some examples below.

Year 5/6 by Henry I and Evie B

We made a self inflating balloon by mixing vinegar and baking soda in a bottle. This mixture caused a reaction and formed carbon dioxide making the balloon inflate itself.

This week we made balloon hovercrafts using CDs, drink bottle lids and air. We were able to create our own air hockey game.

Interschool Minecraft Education Tournament

Each week, a group of students from NLPS will compete against Kingsville Primary in a friendly game of Capture the Flag within a Minecraft Education world. This week, we had a fantastic time playing against another school and can’t wait to do it again!

Reminder: Science Week is in Week 4! If your child has completed the optional challenge, they can bring it to the STEM room or email it to the school if it’s a digital project.
