Amazing 5/6

Term 2 - Week 4
A message from the teachers
We are already nearing the mid point of the term and it is very busy in 5/6. A number of our programs are in full flight and it is great watching the buy-in from the kids. Our kindergarten program has gotten off to a flying start and everyone has done a fantastic job building relationships with their buddies. Hearing the feedback that the kindergarten kids are going home and wanting to play and share things with their buddies is wonderful and watching the empathy and kindness that the big kids show is fantastic. Well done 5/6!!
We are also in the middle of our winter interschool sports program and we have had some great results so far. The sportsmanship shown has been fantastic and it is great to see the responsibility the kids show with setting up their games and collecting all the equipment needed.
Finally, we have a number of high achiever Maths programs that are underway or just beginning. A selection of our Year 5s are heading to John Monash School of Science every Wednesday afternoon to participate in a number of experiments and maths extension activities. We also have our biggest team of 5s and 6s ever participating in the Maths Talent Quest, a program where the students conduct mathematical investigations on an area of interest. We have teams exploring potato batteries, afl scoring tendencies and the inflation and costs of make-up. Well done to everyone involved.
The Junior Mayor Experience
By Marie L
On Thursday the 8th of May the school and vice captains (Daniel, Sai, Maddie and I ) all went to the Kingston City Town Hall to take part in the Kingston Junior Mayor. All the schools in the City of Kingston that could attend made a speech about this year's topic, inclusivity and 26 out of 31 schools were able to attend. The school who won Kingston Junior Mayor was Edithvale Primary School and Chelsea Heights got the role of deputy Junior Mayor. We came seventh out of 26, an amazing achievement. We all had an incredible time and want to thank the City of Kingston for giving us the opportunity of participating in Junior Mayor. We would also like to thank Mr Duckett, Miss Anna, Miss Mason and our peers for helping and supporting us all the way through the span of this project.
