Terrific 2

Term 2 Week 4 2025 -  Friday 16th of May

What have we been up to?

Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,

Can you believe that it’s already Week 4 of Term 2?! We hope everyone has settled back into their school routines and are enjoying what has been a busy few weeks. Students have been enjoying their learning in the classrooms and showing great levels of enthusiasm which is very pleasing to see.

Mother’s Day Stall

Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to purchase gifts from the Mother’s Day stall last Wednesday. We were very pleased with their behaviour and the manners shown to all of our helpers during this time. The grade 2 team is also grateful for the time and effort that the Le Page community put in to make this such an awesome event for our students.

Thanks so much!

In Literacy

We are continuing on with our daily Phonics lessons and students are showing improved confidence in their reading, writing and spelling of new and interesting words.

This term so far, our students have done a deep dive into a novel study based on The Curious Garden by Peter Brown. It’s a beautifully illustrated story about transformation, care, and the power of nature. Last week saw them finish this book and complete a writing piece using what they have learned and then applied it in the classroom setting. We got to see some fabulous work and are excited to see what they can do next!

The next book in the novel study unit is Big Rain Coming by Katrina Germein and illustrated by Bronwyn Bancroft.

In Maths

In Maths, students have continued to explore addition and subtraction strategies, with a strong emphasis on using number lines to develop their mental math and problem-solving skills. This hands-on approach helps students visualize number relationships and builds a strong foundation for future learning. Our next unit will focus on Measurement and Geometry.

InquiryWe’re excited to launch a powerful new inquiry unit this term focused on Indigenous perspectives. Students will explore the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations peoples, with a focus on deepening understanding, respect, and appreciation. This unit encourages curiosity, empathy, and meaningful connections to country and community.

Leader in Me and Respectful Relationships: As part of our Leader in Me program, students have now created their new academic and personal goals. These goals are student-driven and focused on helping each child take ownership of their learning journey. We encourage you to ask your child about it and they can be viewed in the classrooms. Classroom WIG’s (Wildly Important Goals) have also been updated. All class WIG’s can be viewed in the area just outside the front office.

Home Readers

Please remember that READERS ARE CHANGED EVERY MONDAY. Students will take 2 books each Monday, where they can alternate throughout the week. Please remember, students need to read these everyday as they are all in grade 2 now.

Readers will only be changed on a Monday. This may be repetitive for your child however that is the purpose. We are focusing on fluency and confidence.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.

Thank you for your support, Kayla Mugford,  Hannah Jackson &  Sam Downs
