Reconciliation week

May 27th - June 3rd

At Hamlyn Views, National Reconciliation Week is a meaningful time for students to explore the shared histories, cultures and achievements that shape our country. It’s a chance to deepen our understanding, strengthen connections, and continue learning how to genuinely respect and value the histories, cultures and futures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is Bridging Now to Next — a reminder that the journey of reconciliation connects the past, present and future. It encourages us to keep moving forward, guided by the lessons of the past. This year’s official song is Solid Rock by Shane Howard/Goanna, so you might hear us singing and enjoying it in the lead-up to Reconciliation Week!

Education Support Day

On Friday 16 May, we celebrated the amazing work of our Education Support staff. Students made cards and wrote messages for staff, and we shared a special morning tea to show our thanks. From classrooms to Allied Health, Admin, Tech and Maintenance, these hard-working staff keep our school running smoothly — and we’re so grateful for everything they do!

Student Free Day

Just a reminder that Friday 6 June is a student-free day. While students enjoy the day off, staff will be at school taking part in professional learning focused on Wellbeing and Teaching & Learning. Please also note that school will be closed on Monday 10 June for the King’s Birthday public holiday.

Stay Well this Winter

Last week, staff took part in our flu immunisation program — just one way we’re working to stay healthy this winter. Information about student flu shots has been sent home via Compass with immunisations taking place on Thursday 29th May. Keeping our school community safe means looking out for one another, especially those who are more vulnerable to illness. If you're feeling unwell, staying home is one of the most important things you can do to help protect others.

We’re already seeing a rise in colds, COVID and other viruses, which are having a real impact on both student and staff attendance. This sometimes means we need to adjust programs or routines at short notice. Thank you for your support and understanding — it really does make a difference.

Shoes at School – Safety First

We kindly remind families that students are expected to wear shoes at school. While we understand that some students experience sensory challenges, bare feet can pose safety risks both in the classroom and in the playground.

To support students who may find wearing shoes difficult, we have social stories available that can be sent home and used to help set expectations and build routines. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like a copy.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and supported.

May Conference

Next week, the Principal Class Team will be attending the Principal’s Association of Specialist Schools (PASS) Culture Builds Connection Conference. Culture is at the heart of everything we do — by building a school culture of high expectations and deep understanding, we’re laying the foundation for student success, both at school and beyond.

The conference is a great chance to connect with colleagues from specialist schools across Victoria and learn from the inspiring work happening in other settings. We’re looking forward to bringing back fresh ideas to share with our team. A big thank you to our leadership team for keeping things running smoothly while we're away!

Term 2 Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings

Term 2 SSG meetings will take place in Week 10, starting Monday 23 June. Details about scheduling and how to participate will be shared with families via Compass.

These meetings are a valuable opportunity for you to connect directly with your child’s teacher, discuss their progress, celebrate achievements, and work together on goals for the rest of the year. We understand that families have different needs, so we strive to offer flexible meeting times and formats — whether in person, by phone, or online. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to find a time and mode that works best for you.

We encourage all families to take part in these conversations — your involvement is key to supporting your child’s success!
