MOCA Reunion: Classes of 2019-2023

Every time we gather with our Old Boys, there is a buzz of excitement in the air. This was no different last Friday night, when our Old Boys from the Classes of 2019-2023 gathered in the Olympia Restaurant in Oakleigh. It was amazing to hear the stories of their post-Mazenod College journeys to date. Some Old Boys were still studying; others were working, and others were about to head overseas for extended holidays. Despite the cost-of-living crisis, we were amazed by the number of our Old Collegians who are working in the finance industry. Some are investment bankers; others are in commercial ventures, and others are working as accountants. Even though our Old Boys came from different years at the College, they bonded and chatted with each other and really displayed genuine friendship and joy. It was extra special, too, to be at Olympia, supporting our Old Boy, Nick Flaounas’ business (MOC 1999). Our Old Collegians were delighted to receive a MOCA tie as a memento, reminding them that they are, and will always be part of the Mazenod College Community. It was a fabulous night!

'Young Professional' Networking Night

Last Friday night, 9th May, our Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association (MOCA) hosted a 'Young Professional’ Networking Night. The evening was held at the Little Bang Espresso in the Ernst Young Building in the former Herald and Weekly Times Building. What a night! Our gathering of our Mazenod Old Collegians was filled with joy, as Nick D’Angelo (MOC 2006) the owner of this magnificent Café’ greeted us. The venue, the ambience, the food and the views were spectacular! We thank Nick very much for making his Café’ available to us.

During the evening, our Old Collegians listened to the career journeys of three Old Boys: Nick D’Angelo (MOC 2006), James Grosso (MOC 2012) and Adam Scott (MOC 1983). It was fascinating and exciting to hear the journeys of these men post their lives at Mazenod College. Each Old Collegian emphasised the impact of the College in their lives, and how this has continued into their adult lives. They spoke about the importance of friendships and networking. As a MOCA Community, we all endorse our belief that we are one united Community, which actively seeks to support each other.

The buzz within the Café’ was palpable and the evening was filled with laughs, fun and great and inspirational personal stories. We thank our guest speakers, and all those who attended last Friday evening! The evening enabled us to live out the words of our Mazenod College Anthem: “May our friendships formed here ever flourish and grow.”
