Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

We have had another great week of learning with many things happening across each year level. As I have been taking tours with prospective families, it has been noticed and commented by a number of people how calm and orderly the environment is around the school and in the classrooms. Creating a calm and orderly classroom involves establishing routines, clear expectations, and a positive learning environment. This includes organising the space, incorporating elements of nature, and providing opportunities for self-regulation. Effective strategies also involve using polite language, maintaining eye contact, and respecting student perspectives.

The training we have been undertaking as a staff around the Berry Street Education Model has had a strong focus on creating successful, positive classrooms through the development of consistent predictable routines. Every morning each classes participates in a Yarning Circle, which includes the elements of greetings, values, expectations, announcements and reflection on what's going well. This consistent predictable routine is certainly contributing to the calm and orderly school we are teaching and learning in at Heidelberg PS.

Year 3-6 Cross Country

On Tuesday our Year 3 - 6 students completed their cross country event. It was great to see and hear the team spirit as students arrived at school dressed in their House colours.

The rain held off and the event was able to be completed in near perfect conditions. Students demonstrated lots of effort and resilience as they participated in the event- well done everyone!

Thank you to Ethan Griffiths for all his preparation and organisation put into the day, and to the staff and parent volunteers who supported the success of the event.

Congratulations and good luck to the students who advance to the next level and compete against students from other schools in the Banyule area.

Anzac Day Ceremony

I was so proud of our school captains who led a moving and respectful ceremony to honour and remember our Anzacs last Thursday. The learning that occurred whilst researching and planning for the presentation of the ceremony to the whole school community was immense for these wonderful leaders. We appreciate the strong support from the community members who came along to be part of the service and special commemoration.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

We will remember them

Lest we forget

Federal Election Polling Venue

Our school hall will be a polling venue for the federal election tomorrow, Saturday 3rd May.

Unfortunately, we will not be holding a sausage sizzle or cake sale as the timing to organise and prepare for this was quite limited.

Mother's Day

Thank you to our school council members who are organising a Mother's Day morning tea at school on Friday 9th May between 8am-9am.

Come and enjoy a free morning tea in the HPS School Hall with your Mum or

special person in your life. Tea, coffee and snacks provided. ALL WELCOME. No need to RSVP. We hope to see lots of you there!

Year 5 Camp

We wish our Year 5 students and staff well as they head off on camp from Wednesday to Friday next.

Thank you to the staff who have planned and prepared for the camp. Their work has been comprehensive and focused to ensure that students have a positive and successful experience. We hope everyone going has an enjoyable and fun time.

Do It For Dolly

On Friday 9th May, our SRC leaders are organising a whole school event to recognise Do It For Dolly Day by asking all students and staff to come to school dressed in blue and donating a gold coin. Blue is the colour chosen to support this important day, which promotes kindness, respect, and inclusion. We thank the SRC for their work in arranging this worthwhile opportunity to raise awareness.
