Head of Sport Report
Congratulations to all teams on an excellent start to the winter season. It has been very pleasing to see full attendance at training sessions and strong commitment to game days, with very few absences so far. This dedication has already made a positive impact on team performance and cohesion.
As we continue through the season, please remember the importance of booking any appointments or personal commitments, around your training and game schedules. Being available for your team is crucial, not only to maintain the momentum we have built but also to ensure fairness to your teammates who rely on your contribution.
Our winter season is relatively short — just 10 rounds plus finals — which means that every game matters. Missing games could affect your personal eligibility for finals. Your commitment each week is essential for your team’s success and for the spirit of our sporting community.
Keep up the good work, support one another, and continue striving for a rewarding and competitive season!
Congratulations

Round 1 ISA Netball
Juniors Netball vs Chevalier
The first game is always the hardest, especially as a new team. Although we did not win, the girls all played outstandingly and worked so well as a team! We started off strong, with neither team scoring for the first few minutes with defence strong against Chevalier. By the end of the first quarter, we had scored a few goals with Elsie and Hayley working really well as a shooting team. The game continued, and unfortunately we slowly fell behind Chev but the girls never gave up as we continually blocked the ball and made some great attacking plays! We finished off scoring 10 goals - double digits - Woohoo!
Great game girls!

Inters Netball vs Barker
Well done to the Inters team who played a strong game against Barker where they implemented the skills they learnt in training effectively into a game situation. Abi and Taylor worked strongly together as shooters. Faith and Marnie did well to keep Barker scoreless in some quarters, where the rest of the team did well to convert their defensive efforts into points for Grammar on the scoreboard. The team worked well to reward effort with a scoring and talk each other up to keep team morale high. Izzy played well in C, placing pressure on the opposition during C passes to result in a turnover. Sasha also did a good job at apply pressure on the centre passes. With a good win to start the season, there are lots of positive takeaways and keep improving on in order to keep this momentum going throughout the season.

Firsts Netball vs Chevalier
BMGS: 26 Chevalier: 51
Despite a challenging game against a strong Chevalier Firsts team, BMGS Firsts showed resilience and teamwork throughout the match, with Chevalier securing the win by a 25-point margin.
This match marked the debut of two new players for BMGS Firsts, Bella Hitchenson and Emily Weber, who made an immediate impact on court. For Emily, it was her first game of netball and she was particularly impressive considering this! Both players slotted into the defensive end with confidence and determination, showing great potential and working hard to disrupt Chevalier’s circle feeds. Their communication and positioning were strong for their first game, with both girls either setting up or executing good intercepts. While the scoreboard wasn’t in our favour, BMGS never gave up and the girls continued to support each other right until the final whistle. There were moments of great passing through the midcourt and some promising attacking movements that we will build on in training and upcoming games.
Well done to all players for their effort and teamwork. With more time to gel and continued focus at training, BMGS has signs of good potential development.
We’re excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds!

Seconds Netball vs Chevalier
BMGS: 45 Chevalier: 29
What a start to the netball season! We kicked off with a fantastic attitude, a great sense of team camaraderie, and with the intent to bring our best.
For the majority of the girls on this team, it is their second year playing together which it enables us to start the season with knowledge of one another’s gameplay and a sense of connection. This showed.
The strong defence all the way up and down the court worked beautifully. We worked hard to keep our players contested at all times allowing us to gain many turnovers through held ball or unforced errors. Our pass and go skills shone through, as did our circle movements. At the first quarter we led by 8, extending that lead slowly and steadily with a strong finish.
Chevalier, as well as this team, played with great discipline and fire, and gave us a really clean strong game.
Thanks go to our umpires also for maintaining consistency and control throughout.
Congrats on a great start girls!

Round 1 Hockey Match Report
Firsts Team
We kicked off the season under perfect conditions, playing at Barker’s home ground on a beautiful sunny day. Spirits were high as the girls eagerly took the field for their first game of the year, ready to put their hard work into action.
From the outset, we faced a tough challenge against a well-drilled and skillful Barker side. Despite having no substitutes, our team gave it everything—pushing hard and showing resilience right through to the final whistle. The final score was 5–0 in Barker’s favour, but our girls never dropped their heads, finishing the match with smiles and a fierce determination to bounce back stronger.
One key learning from the game was the importance of tighter marking. Barker was able to find a clear path into our goal circle too easily at times, and this is something we’ll be focusing on in training this week. Improving our marking and defensive pressure will be a major step forward for the games to come.
Plenty to be proud of and lots to build on—this is just the beginning!
