Year 4

What's been happening in Year 4?
The students have made a smooth and enthusiastic transition into the second half of Semester 1. They have settled in beautifully, demonstrating growing confidence, independence, and a strong sense of classroom community. Learning is well underway, and the students have been highly engaged approaching each task with curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to challenge themselves.
It's been a joy to see their hard work and progress across all areas of learning.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been thoroughly enjoying our class novel The BFG, while also strengthening our comprehension strategies through activities like inferring, summarising, and responding to questions.
Alongside this, we have been working on persuasive writing. After brainstorming and drafting our ideas, we have been exploring thought provoking topics and writing persuasive pieces based on our own interests and passions hoping to inspire change and make a difference.
We’ve also incorporated ICT to publish our final pieces with care and creativity.Check out some examples below!
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we’ve been exploring the concept of Measurement, with a particular focus on Perimeter. Students have been calculating the perimeter of various 2D shapes and real life objects found in their environment. We have also begun learning about angles, identifying and classifying different angles within 2D shapes.
One of the highlights was a hands on project where students used LEGO to redesign the GRPS vegetable garden. After visiting the garden, they applied their mathematical knowledge measuring, calculating, and building through creative design and careful planning.
Mother's Day Crafts
We had a wonderful time creating special gifts for Mother’s Day using cornflour dough! First, we carefully planned and designed our ideas. Then, we shaped the dough into beautiful jewellery holders, bookmarks, and ornaments. After baking them in the oven, we painted and decorated our creations with care. To make them even more special, we designed our own wrapping paper and made heartfelt cards, sharing all the reasons we love and appreciate our mums and the important people in our lives.
