Luca Caniglia Shines at National Swimming Championships

Over the holidays, Year 9 student Luca Caniglia proudly represented Moama Anglican Grammar at the 2025 Brisbane Australian Age National Swimming Championships. Competing in the 14-year-old breaststroke events, Luca delivered exceptional performances that reflected his hard work and determination, building on his earlier success this year, where he set a new record at the BISSA Swimming Carnival.

"My name is Luca Caniglia, and I recently competed at the 2025 Brisbane Australian Age National Championships, where I raced in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events for 14-year-olds. I placed 9th in Australia in the 50m breaststroke, 12th in the 100m, and 30th in the 200m, competing against a strong field that included over 54 international swimmers.

In the four months leading up to the championships, I increased my training to eight sessions per week, including two early morning swims before school and one dedicated dryland gym session. This level of preparation demanded significant time, discipline, and commitment, especially as I live 45 minutes from my training centre. Balancing intense training with school and travel was challenging, but it ultimately helped me perform at my best in the national pool. I could not have done it without the support of my teammates, family, coaches, and school."
