In Memory of Pope Francis
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of our much-loved Pope Francis. A special prayer liturgy will be held this afternoon at 3pm in our parish church. We invite all families to attend.
ANZAC Day Service
Last Thursday, our school came together for a special ANZAC Day service. We took time to remember and honour the brave men and women from Australia and New Zealand who served in the armed forces. Their courage and sacrifices helped make our country the safe and free place it is today. I commend all our students for participating in such a successful manner.
Professional Learning Days – Monday, 5th & Tuesday, 6th May
On both upcoming Professional Learning Days, our staff will be engaged in meaningful activities that support the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at St Michael’s.
- Day 1 will focus on Teaching and Learning. Staff will spend time reviewing our implementation of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction, with a particular emphasis on Mathematics, Reading, and Writing.
- Day 2 will centre on preparations for our 2025 School Review. Every four years, schools undergo an external review to ensure compliance with the standards set by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), the body responsible for granting schools permission to operate. This process also includes a review of how teaching and learning is delivered across the school. While the review involves input from our staff, it is overseen by external reviewers appointed by both MACS and the Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA).
These days are a valuable opportunity for our team to reflect, refine, and prepare to ensure we continue to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
School Photos
School photos will be taken on Thursday, 8th May. All children MUST be in their full winter uniform. Children who have PE classes must wear their winter uniform and not their sports uniform; they may bring their runners in their bag. Children are to wear black school shoes, and all hair below collar length must be tied back. Ribbons or bows worn in hair must be in school colours.
Winter Uniform
As we move into the cooler months, it is time for all children to be in their full winter uniforms. This is a reminder that leggings are not part of our uniform and should not be worn as part of either the regular or sports uniform. Thank you for your ongoing assistance in ensuring your children are wearing their uniform correctly and with pride.
Punctuality Plus
Being on time is a valuable habit for children to learn. Arriving late not only disrupts your child’s learning but can also interrupt the flow of the classroom for others. When children are part of the morning routine, they feel more settled, connected, and ready for a successful day of learning.
Let’s work together to build good habits that support every child’s growth and success.
To encourage and reward children who arrive on time a Punctuality Plus award will be given each week to the class with the least amount of late arrivals. Please help your child's class be a winning class by getting them to school before 8.50am.
Yr 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 children returned on Wednesday from their three-day camp to Phillip Island, having had the best time ever! It was wonderful to welcome them back and hear all about the fun they had - from braving the giant swing to zooming around on the go-karts. Their days were packed with exciting activities, and they came home looking well and truly ready for a big sleep!
A heartfelt thank you to all our dedicated staff who attended the camp and took such great care of the children. It’s a big commitment to attend school camps - leaving behind their own families and being responsible for students 24/7 - and we are incredibly grateful for the passion and care they bring to ensure every child has a fun, safe, and memorable experience.
Mother's Day
We celebrate Mother's Day next week with our Mother's Day Stall on Thursday, 8th May and Mother's Day celebration on Friday, 9th May. Please check Class Dojo for all the details. A special thank you to our parents who have assisted with preparing for and running the Mother's Day stall. Your help is very much appreciated.
Prep 2026 Enrolment
This week, Angela and I had the pleasure of meeting with several families enrolling their children for Prep in 2026. We’re delighted by the strong level of interest already shown, and we encourage any families with children due to start school in 2026 to complete an enrolment form as soon as possible.
We are also grateful to our current families, many of whom have referred new families to St Michael’s. If you have friends or relatives looking for a welcoming and nurturing school community, your recommendation can go a long way in pointing them toward St. Michael’s.
School Fees
Families will today receive their current school fee invoices for this year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued commitment to making payments on time, it is greatly appreciated. If you would like to discuss your school fees or payment arrangements, please don’t hesitate to contact the office to make a time to meet with me.
